Last month, we hosted a Chemical and Biological Defense Program Enterprise Town Hall at Aberdeen Proving Ground. ?? BG W Bochat spoke about her priorities as the new commander of the 20th CBRNE Command, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for Chemical and Biological Defense Ian Watson discussed United States Department of Defense Capability Portfolio Management reform. After their remarks, a panel with DASD Watson, our JPEO Darryl Colvin, DTRA JSTO Engagement Director Dr. Robert Kristovich, and Joint CBRN Defense Program Analysis and Integration Office (PAIO) Director Andy Blankenbiller answered audience questions. During our Joint Project Manager for CBRN Sensors' recent Commercial Off the Shelf Modernization fielding to the Oklahoma National Guard's 63rd Civil Support Team, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) asked for help identifying white powder found in suspicious packages sent to election officials in more than 15 states. The National Guard Bureau Soldiers and instructors participating in the fielding used our Analytical Laboratory System 1A1 (ALS1A1) to determine that the powdery substance was not hazardous. Earlier this year, our Joint Program Executive Officer Mr. Darryl Colvin hosted an interactive discussion about mental health awareness and resources with Aberdeen Proving Ground’s Employee Assistance Program Coordinator Dr. Jenise Bryce. Dr. Bryce provided a mental health awareness briefing and fielded questions from our workforce about mental health resources and supporting resiliency. Meet Pete Harlan, an Assistant Program Manager on our Joint Project Lead for CBRN Defense Enabling Biotechnologies (JPL CBRND EB) team.?? Pete won our JPEO-CBRND Employee of the Quarter award earlier this year for his work advancing a Nipah virus monoclonal antibody (mAb) prototype through required studies, resulting in a Phase I clinical trial in under 24 months. This mAb was the first of our Accelerated Antibodies Enhanced Biodefense program's capabilities to enter clinical evaluation. In addition to his great work for JPL CBRND EB, Pete coaches club soccer to emphasize the importance of teamwork for the younger generation.
