?? Are you curious about what happens #BehindTheCurtain of #JHM when a paper is submitted? The Journal of Hospital Medicine Fellowship is an awesome learning experience to share with others the collaboration that occurs in the Editorial & Digital Media processes. Our team is led by our incredible EIC, Samir S. Shah, MD, MSCE, MHM! In this series, "Behind the Curtain: Q&A with past JHM fellows," we share insights & learnings from past fellows. Up next we have Maha Sulieman from Emory University School of Medicine, who is a current Deputy Editor of Digital Media with JHM! ----------------------------------------------- ? Why did you apply to the JHM fellowship? ?? I applied for the JHM Fellowship because I appreciate the diverse ideas and supportive community of JHMChat. Learning from others outside my network is valuable, and I was eager to gain new insights in hospital medicine ? What was your favorite part of the fellowship? ?? My favorite part of the fellowship was the lasting friendships I built with my co-fellows, which have had a positive impact on my career and life. I also gained valuable skills in knowledge sharing, teaching, and research dissemination in fun creative ways, that helped me contribute more effectively to the field. ?What was something surprising you learned? ?? I was surprised by how empowering it is to step out of my comfort zone. It opened doors to new opportunities, connections, and perspectives I wouldn’t have gained otherwise. ?Share a favorite output that you contributed to in your time as a fellow: ?? ?? What happens #BehindTheCurtain of #JHM when a paper is submitted? The Journal of Hospital Medicine Fellowship is an awesome learning experience to share with others the collaboration that occurs in the Editorial & Digital Media processes Our team is led by our awesome EIC, Samir S. Shah, MD, MSCE, MHM! In this series, "Behind the Curtain: Q&A with past JHM fellows," we share insights & learnings from past fellows. Next we have Farah Kaiksow from University of Wisconsin-Madison, who is also a current Senior Deputy Editor with JHM! ----------------------------------------------- ? Why did you apply to the JHM fellowship? ?? As a hospitalist, JHM has always been my "intellectual home." At the time of my application, I was hoping to get a research program started and knew that I would need to know more about the editorial and publishing processes. I had very little experience as a primary author and no experience on an editorial board. The JHM Editorial Fellowship therefore made perfect sense, and I was thrilled to be accepted. ? What was your favorite part of the fellowship? ?? My favorite part of the fellowship was participating in the editorial board meetings. At first it was extremely intimidating, especially when Samir would call on us specifically. But that feeling quickly subsided after a few meetings when we all realized that the meetings really were a relaxed and open forum for discussion. ?What was something surprising you learned? ?? I was surprised at how straightforward writing an editorial could be. If you really know the paper you are writing about, it is a super fun and not too challenging process that results in a great little piece of work that can be very helpful to others. ?Share a favorite output that you contributed to in your time as a fellow: ?? My first editorial! "Caring for Noncritically Ill Coronavirus Patients" ?? https://lnkd.in/gWbm2yNE ----------------------------------------------- ?? Now it's your turn to learn about how JHM is #MoreThanAJournal! Apply to the Editorial fellowship here: https://lnkd.in/ge-ac8zg OR Apply for the Digital Media fellowship here: https://lnkd.in/gKnHtqbj ?? Applications are due April 30th, 2025!
