Do antibodies that protect against Epstein-Barr virus affect the risk of its associated cancers? Mu-Sheng Zeng & team present a large-scale population-based study, revealing gp42-IgG antibody as protective against EBV-associated nasopharyngeal carcinoma: https://lnkd.in/e459Q7q4 The figure shows HLA-II expression in nasopharyngeal atypical dysplasia.

Titin, the largest known human protein, is vital for normal heart muscle contraction. Yuri Kim & team now discover an intron-mediated enhancer crucial for TTN gene expression and cardiomyocyte contractility: https://lnkd.in/eJh9_PpV The figure shows deletion of the TTN regulatory element E1 leads to fewer sarcomeres and less GFP expression in human cardiomyocytes from induced pluripotent stem cells.

An advancement in lysosomal research with diagnostic applications! Esther M. Sammler & team present a tagless method for profiling lysosomal content from clinical samples: https://lnkd.in/e6UvfekB

CYP24A1 mutation cause hypercalcemia and kidney stones, but its role in mineral homeostasis is unclear. Myles Wolf & team now show intestinal Cyp24a1 regulates local vitamin D, and suggest it could serve as a target in secondary hyperparathyroidism in chronic kidney disease. https://lnkd.in/e5-gyayV The figure shows Cyp24a1 mRNA is basally expressed in proximal tubules of the outer cortex and its expression increases across the cortex along the proximal tubule 6 hours after calcitriol injection.

How can we make PARP inhibitors more effective in castration-dependent prostate cancer? Francesca Demichelis & team identify the DNA repair gene LIG1 as a sensitizer to PARP inhibitors in multiple tumor models. https://lnkd.in/ei4YwAJ4 The figure shows increased double-stranded DNA breaks in xenograft tumor sections lacking LIG1 that had also been treated with PARP inhibitors.
