The Journal of Business Ethics publishes only original articles from a wide variety of methodological and disciplinary perspectives concerning ethical issues related to business that bring something new or unique to the discourse in their field. From its inception the Journal has aimed to improve the human condition by providing a public forum for discussion and debate about ethical issues related to business. In order to promote a dialogue between the various interested groups as much as possible, papers are presented in a style relatively free of specialist jargon.

SOCIETY FOR BUSINESS ETHICS BEST DISSERTATION AWARD Submissions due May 1, 2025 The Society for Business Ethics (SBE; www.sbeonline.org/) is soliciting abstracts for #dissertations completed between May 1, 2024, and April 30, 2025, to be considered for SBE’s Best Dissertation Award 2025. While dissertations must focus on #businessethics, work from any academic discipline is welcome. The purpose of the award is to recognize the dissertation that, in the judgment of the committee, most clearly demonstrates the potential to contribute to substantial advances in business ethics research and practice. Recent winners of the award have focused on topics such as strategic questions around CSR, the normative implications of monetary systems, and entrepreneurship among women in Afghanistan. Those wishing to be considered for the award should submit an abstract up to 10 pages in length. From among the abstracts, three finalists will be selected and asked to submit full-length dissertations. The award winner will be announced at SBE's Annual Meeting in July. A complete submission will include these 3 separate attachments, all in PDF format without any identifying information in the source file: 1?? An abstract of not more than 10 double-spaced pages of text (including references, tables, figures, and appendices), standard margins throughout, Times New Roman 12-point or similar font. The author’s name, the advisor’s name, and the university’s name should not be mentioned anywhere in the abstract. 2?? A copy of the signature page, with university name, signatures, and date of completion, or similar official evidence of the date of completion of the dissertation. 3?? A title page with the author’s current mailing address, telephone number, fax number, and email address. The title page must be sent as a separate file from the abstract. Please note that the committee welcomes a variety of research approaches, including, for example, #normative/ #philosophical and #socialscience/ #empirical (both #qualitative and #quantitative). Submissions are due May 1, 2025, and should be sent to: Isaac Smith at [email protected] Chair, Society for Business Ethics Best Dissertation Award Committee Brigham Young University, US

Who Gets a Seat at the Table in Disaster Response? ?? In the face of climate-related disasters, collaboration across sectors is more critical than ever. But can private-sector actors truly play a meaningful role, or are they systematically excluded by traditional authorities? ?? New research by HUMAC members Dorothee Nussbruch and Verena Girschik finds that: ?? Legitimacy is key: private actors are accepted when they align with sovereign authorities. ?? Authority tensions arise when private actors expand their role unilaterally. ?? The result? A deadlock that reinforces traditional sector divides and limits cross-sector collaboration. So, how can we rethink collaboration to unlock the full potential of cross-sector disaster response? ?? Is work still a right if it has become a norm? I am thrilled to share that our article “Is Work Still a Right if it has Become a Norm? Disability Inclusion in Labor Market Policy Discourse” has found a home in the Journal of Business Ethics! This work is the result of a collaborative effort with Anneleen Forrier and Nele De Cuyper. In this paper, we showed that policy discourse about work for people with disabilities shifted from ‘work as a right’ to ‘work as a norm’ over the last 20 years: work has become a moral obligation as a citizen. Discourse from the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was embedded in Flemish policy, however, it was appropriated by neoliberal arguments. What does this mean? Even though arguments such as the right to work and disability inclusion were emphasized in policy, these concepts lost their original meaning as they were only used to legitimate the discourse of work as a norm. This appropriation made policies of strict activation of people with disabilities generally accepted and irrefutable. In general, this study showed that people with disabilities’ right to work is undermined because of the neoliberal discourse of work as a norm. The full article is freely available through open access here: https://rdcu.be/ebCim This publication wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of my former colleagues of WOS at KU Leuven, the unwavering enthusiasm of my PhD supervisors and examiners, and the invaluable feedback from the reviewers and guest editors of the special issue. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this journey!
