A serum proteomic analysis of a subset of the NFBCohort1966 revealed no biomarker for Modic changes (MC), which are bone marrow lesions of vertebral bones. Our new paper in JOR Spine doi.org/10.1002/jsp2.70000 trained a U-Net model for slice-wise segmentation of discs from 3D T1-weighted spine MRI. Model performance was equivalent to manual segmentation, with a mean DSC?=?0.93 for degeneration grades I–IV. The final trained model is available to support scientific use. Cytokine multiplexing and advanced proteomics found no associations with modic changes identified via MRI, suggesting robust biomarkers to facilitate modic change diagnosis cannot be readily identified in serum. https://bit.ly/3YyEnvy
