We are excited that Victor Steinbrueck Park has officially reopened, although without the totem poles that are currently being restored. The park renovation improves safety, adds lighting and seating, and upgrades the play area. An important new feature is the Coast Salish art elements that honor Seattle's first people. We are proud of our contribution to this Seattle landmark and eagerly anticipate the return of the totems, which is expected to be within the year. https://lnkd.in/gKsQCUaN

We are proud to be associated with this incredible group that are making this project a reality!
Dedication Ceremony: Honoring Vision, Resilience, and Community On Friday, December 20, 2024, a transformative moment unfolded at Western Washington University as Coast Salish Elders, WWU students, faculty, and community members gathered to dedicate the Coast Salish Longhouse. What began with a heartfelt letter from WWU's Native American Student Union has evolved into a symbol of collaboration, respect, and shared purpose—a testament to decades of partnership and vision. The Coast Salish Longhouse is more than a structure; it is a sanctuary for healing and connection. For Native communities, it serves as a space to honor resilience and support healing from intergenerational trauma. For the broader community, it offers an opportunity for reflection, understanding, and fostering shared growth toward a more inclusive future. The dedication ceremony was a profoundly moving experience, featuring meaningful offerings to bless the site and honor Indigenous traditions and the land we all share. These moments remind us of the power of cultural preservation and the importance of recognizing the contributions of Indigenous voices in shaping our collective story. We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this vision a reality—from the Native American Student Union who championed this dream to the builders, designers, and advocates who brought it to life. This project is a shining example of what is possible when we come together with purpose and respect. Together, we are building a brighter, more inclusive future—one that celebrates heritage, fosters connection, and uplifts every voice. #WWU #CoastSalishHeritage #CommunityImpact #DiversityAndInclusion #CulturalHealing

Today we celebrate A/E/C Growth Professionals Day, recognizing the individuals who have dedicated their careers to building the industry and driving continued growth. These marketing and business development professionals not only help win work for their firms, but often overlap into many other areas--administrative, human resources, event planning, internal communications, and more (and don't forget serving as informal therapists and sounding boards)! We appreciate the efforts of all in this profession, and especially our marketing/BD team of Melissa Quezada and Lily Kimura. Thanks for all you do!

This month we congratulate and thank two amazing employees—Wes Simmonds and Tanner Sment. Both are celebrating anniversaries with Jones & Jones. Wes is a positive force in the office, always ready with a smile and eagerness to help however he can. His beautiful landscape designs reflect our firm’s dedication to culture- and nature-centered design. Tanner brings energy and fresh ideas to his work, which already boasts a wide range—from the PAWS Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and Chief Seattle Club to the ongoing Bainbridge Island Historical Museum and Blandford Nature Center. We look forward to many more years with both of them. Thank you, Wes! Thank you, Tanner!

M Mario Campos Campos, FAIA, ASLA, architect and partner with Jones & Jones, celebrated 40 years with the company in November. Mario came to Seattle from México City (he’s a true chilango! IFYKYK), first meeting with Dennis Haskell at the University of Washington and Gordon Walker, a prominent architect. They suggested he meet with Grant Jones. During Mario’s first conversation with Grant, he confirmed his affinity for the firm’s principles, ideas, and pioneering directions. Grant asked Mario to assist with the Woodland Park Zoo Asian Elephant exhibit, through which he discovered the intrinsic ideas of promoting wildlife conservation education with zoological design. Mario also worked on the Center for Urban Horticulture at UW, which helped him understand the complete integration of environmental restoration, landscape architecture, and architecture. Mario believed he would work at Jones & Jones 6 months to a year, but one project led to the next and the rest is history! Mario’s portfolio includes longstanding relationships with the Detroit Zoo and Dublin Zoo, cultural centers at Oregon State University, the Mountains to Sound Greenway Plan, Oregon Zoo Education Center, Chief Seattle Club Mixed Use, and much more. He is currently working with the Suquamish Tribe on a shellfish hatchery and with the City of Redding on the Redding Overlook. Felicidades, Mario, for 40 years with Jones & Jones! Bravo!

Today, Jones & Jones honors Indigenous Peoples Day by reflecting on the vital work we’re doing alongside Tribes around the country. The Tribes’ dedication to preserving cultural heritage, promoting sustainable practices, and being stewards of the land is close to one of our core principles, and is stronger than ever. Together, we’re amplifying Indigenous voices, sharing traditional knowledge, and fostering community resilience. Let’s continue to celebrate and support the rich histories, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples every day. In observance of this day, Jones & Jones will be closed Monday, October 14th. Photo: University of Washington Intellectual House, Seattle, Washington
