*Experienced police officers earn a higher starting salary* In Prince William County, our Police Department employs a tenure-based compensation system that takes into consideration an officer’s completed years of service. Officers with prior police experience (certified in either Virginia or out-of-state) are eligible to receive 100% credit for their completed years of service, up to a maximum of ten years.?The starting salary offered will correspond to the base amount associated with your credited years of experience. All newly hired officers are eligible for a $10,000 hiring bonus.?Virginia certified officers may also be eligible for an additional $3,000 hiring bonus. The Police Department offers the opportunity for individuals to ride-along with a police officer during a normal tour of duty, and experience an officer’s day-to-day duties and responsibilities. Criminal justice students, and those interested in a career in law enforcement, have found it particularly useful.
