Retail is universal ??
Retail is universal. In Guatemala this past weekend I saw manufacturers, designers, distributors, and retailers. Women spinning, sewing, painting, selling. I was inspired as I watched them negotiate to move inventory but keep margins high. They threw in the last minute upsell and bundle options. They knew their stock levels well — pushing slow sellers in some cases and best sellers in others. The savvy sales people greeted, connected, hustled. Some sold through the story; and others by having you try their goods on. I watched them merchandise, setting up and breaking down their tiendas. Dressing and redressing mannequins. Pulling additional sizes and colors as the day went on. Refolding again and again as potential customers examined the gorgeous textiles. All of these techniques, I’ve done —- and so have many of you. That’s the thing about retail. We have our own culture; our own language. It doesn’t matter where you go in the world, you can see it and we just “get” one another. You can take me out of my country — but you can’t take retail out of me. By the way… 9 out of 10 took Apple Pay. ??
