We recently had the pleasure of hosting a Strategic Networking for Success in Animal Advocacy event, with the wonderful Becca Rogers from the New Roots Institute! Becca's extensive experience in leadership development and animal advocacy provided invaluable insights for our community. Here are some of our key takeaways from the event: ?? Approximately 85% of jobs are filled through networking. Hiring managers often seek referrals before posting jobs publicly: your network matters! ?? Your LinkedIn profile can be more important than a resumé. Keeping it updated can play a key role in finding a new opportunity! ?? Don't just apply, be strategic and proactive about your application: maybe connect with someone from the organization, engage with them and enhance your prospects. ?? Always think of networking as a two-way street! Outreach isn't just about getting in touch with people and gathering information; it's also about you showcasing your skills and offering your fresh perspective. For more of these game-changing insights head to the comments! ?? ??? You can also watch the recording here: https://lnkd.in/d32zfZ42

The?Hive Highlights?newsletter just dropped! ?? Don’t miss these key updates:? https://lnkd.in/gxRHZZ55 ?? Animal Advocacy Careers’ Talent Survey 2024?is out. Notable findings include: ? When hiring, organizations prefer to see more “personal background or involvement in specific networks or communities relevant to (the) organisation's goals”, “more work experience inside the movement”, and a “clearer demonstration of relevant specific skills (i.e. better work samples)” from candidates. ? Best-performing staff usually have the “ability to learn quickly”, “strong analytical and problem-solving skills”, and “creative thinking and capacity for innovation”, among other traits. ? The hardest roles to hire for include leadership and strategy, fundraising and development, and campaigns and stakeholder engagement. Compared to AAC’s?previous survey, overall talent bottlenecks remain similar with some small differences: campaigns becoming increasingly difficult to fill, while policy careers are slightly easier. Regional differences persist. ???Several grants are accepting applications with deadlines in the next few weeks! These include?Thrive Philanthropy Grants?(1 March),?the?Strategic Animal Funding Circle?(10 March), and?Animal Charity Evaluators’?2025 Movement Grants?(14 March). ?? The UK government is considering allowing insect protein in animal feed in England and Wales. This is worrying as the government explicitly says changes would “enable investment in the insect protein sector”. Take 5-10 minutes by 1 April to?tell the British government?that you’re against it. Last week, we had the opportunity to connect with so many incredible advocates at EA Global: Bay Area 2025... and we’re still feeling energized from the experience! ?? ?? At the Organization Fair, we were grateful to meet so many of you who stopped by our booth after being recommended to check out Hive. We also had community members drop in just to say thank you, which was a heartwarming reminder of why we do this work! ??The Farmed Animal Welfare Meetup brought together 51 (!) advocates, fostering meaningful conversations about the movement. We hosted three rounds of 1:1 chats, followed by a group discussion, sparking exciting ideas and collaborations. We can't wait to see what unfolds next! ?? Seeing so many people actively engage with us reaffirms the role of community in farmed animal advocacy. We're here to connect and support advocates, and we’re thrilled to see new relationships forming that will drive further impact for farmed animals.

Our Executive Director, Sofia Balderson shares a behind-the-scenes look at her day! From strategy to fundraising and collaboration to advocacy, she balances it all to help Hive thrive ?? Curious about what a day in her role looks like? Check out her post below! ??
? What’s my day like as Hive’s Executive Director? ? Managing a community of over 3,000 advocates means no two days are ever the same. My role as Executive Director combines strategy, community building, fundraising, and management, all with one goal: creating a world where farmed animals are no longer exploited. Here’s how I spend my day: ?? Morning: I start my day with self-care - it's usually exercise, meditation and a good breakfast. Sometimes, I have early meetings with advocates in Asia, which energizes me to see the global reach of Hive. ?? Mid-Morning: I connect with my team and our community, responding to urgent emails and DMs. This ensures smooth collaboration and reminds me of the amazing people working for farmed animals. ?? Afternoon: Afternoons are for deep work - long-term planning, refining our strategy, or exploring new partnerships. I alternate deep work days with connection days: I have calls and chats with our community, sharing resources, and supporting people entering the movement. ?? Evening: Evenings are for reflection and growth. I tend to be in the flow in the evening and use this time to write about my experiences, connect with people on LinkedIn, or focus on professional development. It’s also when I engage with advocates and partners in the west coast of the US and Canada. ?? Challenges and Rewards: Running Hive has pushed me out of my comfort zone in many ways, especially with fundraising, decision-making and prioritising what to work on (there are always more ways we can support the community!). However, this is the most rewarding job I've ever had. Partly because I get to focus on my comparative advantages and grow professionally, so work is mostly enjoyable and fun. Partly because every single day I get messages of appreciation for Hive and our team's work, and the work feels very fulfilling. ?? What’s your day like? Would love to know how other animal advocates structure their day! Here is a picture of me working out of Effectief Altru?sme Nederland office in Amsterdam - my job being remote means I can not only work from home but also visit community hubs around the world! ??
