The Top 1% of College Applicants don't do what you think. They don't spend 10 hours a day, managing 10 different clubs, and taking 10 AP classes each year. Here's what they do instead: 1.) Find an intersection between their personal interests and career goals 2.) Build something on their own (business, personal project, organization, etc.) 3.) Create a Tangible Impact ( Ex. Developing an app with X amount of users) What's the secret behind all of this? Get really good at the few things you actually care about. Implementing this is obviously easier said than done. If you don't know what you're good at, what activities would be strategic for you, and how to create impact..... Here's how to get an internship when you're in high school ?? Before explaining this strategy, there are two things that you need to be aware of. 1?? Firstly, this internship is NOT going to be at a large company like Google, Facebook, or Amazon. Keep in mind that you are still in high school and don't have enough experience to be working at such a major company. However, that's fine because nobody expects you to have that experience when you're so young. 2?? There's a high possibility that this will be an UNPAID internship. Smaller companies will likely not have the resources to pay such a young intern. This is okay because this internship is about gaining valuable EXPERIENCE, not the money. With this in mind, let's dive right in. 1) Do Research: Using LinkedIn, find companies related to your industry of interest (ex. Software Development, Finance, Healthcare) and filter the company size to "2-10 employees" and "11-50 employees." Make sure to also filter it for locations that are close by to you. 2) Get Contact Info: Using websites like RocketReach and Seamless.ai, find the email addresses of employees at the companies that you're interested in. 3) Email: Send emails to at least one employee per company. In this email, provide a brief introduction and explain why you're interested in x industry. Ask them if they would be available for a quick call/chat and make sure to include your resume. If you do this for 50-100 different companies, you're bound to get at least a few responses. If you would like the email template that has helped our students land multiple internships from small startups, comment down your email!
