"The City of Redmond, WA Senior & Community Center provides flexible spaces, from a commercial kitchen-equipped community room for events and gatherings to the Kids Zone, where Redmond’s youngest residents can engage in creative and exploratory play. Public art celebrating Redmond's cultural heritage and diversity is also a focal point both inside and out, with a striking multi-story mural welcoming visitors at the entry. Built for longevity, the space serves as a place where Redmond residents, young and senior, families and individuals, can come together to pursue health, enrichment, and fun." "Prioritizing sustainability throughout this project, Opsis and JA utilized various innovative features to achieve design and efficiency goals. Mass Plywood Panels (MPP) made from climate-resilient wood emphasize a deep commitment to eco-friendly design, and the building's energy needs are met through air-source heat pumps for efficient heating and cooling. This highly efficient building aligns perfectly with Redmond’s Climate Emergency Declaration goals, demonstrating a commitment to carbon neutrality." ??We are delighted to share that Postmark Center for the Arts was honored with an AIA Washington Council Civic Design Merit Award! ?? South of Seattle in the Green River Valley is the City of Auburn (Washington). The community of 88,000 has a new anchor in its arts district – The Postmark Center for the Arts. Opening in September of 2023, the arts center has given new life to a historic colonial revival-style building that has served the community in multiple ways since it was built in 1937. The name of the 8,000 square foot building pays homage to its original purpose as Auburn’s first United States Post Office, which operated until 1963. Thank you Will Austin and Tammy Dwight for the beautiful images of this award-winning project. You can view Postmark and all of the winners at the link below. https://lnkd.in/gZ8XWmu8

From AIA Spokane - Award of Honor: Winthrop Library Prentiss + Balance + Wickline Architects + Johnston Architects Jury Comments: This is an extremely sophisticated and well resolved design. Drawing from local vernacular in both form and materiality, the design decisions and detailing elevate a seemingly simple building to an entirely different level. The resolution and integration of all building components, particularly the structure, result in inspiring and uplifting spaces. Strong reference to farm building form. The local artist contributions really add the library space to make it special. https://lnkd.in/g5WmSQ-N
