  • Last week was the 36th Annual Mix 106.5 Radiothon benefitting the Johns Hopkins Children's Center! Since the event began in 1939, it has raised more than $30 million. The funds are used to purchase lifesaving medical equipment, fuel research, develop innovative tools and programs, and provide toys, books, games, and art supplies to patients to make their experience a little less frightening. A major shout out to all of our DAR colleagues who were a part of putting the radiothon together, took the time to volunteer, or gave to this worthy cause!?

    • Allison Boge gets the crowd of volunteers in the phone bank to get loud for the radiothon
    • The crowd of volunteers and professionals that made the radiothon possible holding up the dollar total at the end of the day on Friday: $1,125,877.39

  • More than 300 DAR staff members gathered last month in the M&T Bank Exchange at the France-Merrick Performance Arts Center in Baltimore for our annual Winter Celebration! After hearing from Fritz Schroeder, Chelsey Megli, and others, we competed in winter-themed trivia, took photobooth pictures, and threw lots of snowballs. Beyond the games, there were plenty of cookies to decorate, winter comfort foods to warm you up, and a fully stocked hot chocolate bar. Overall, it was a wonderful afternoon to catch up with colleagues and celebrate the new year as a community. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this festive event a success!?

  • James Allan, PhD, joined Johns Hopkins in November 2024 and is responsible for leading alumni engagement strategy across the university and for the Office of Alumni Relations (OAR). He shares why he’s always admired the work of Johns Hopkins as a research institution. “When I learned about the opportunity to lead the OAR team and work with the amazing Hopkins alumni, I jumped at the chance to apply,” he says. James now calls Baltimore home, but he grew up in northern Ontario in Deep River, a community of 4,000. Deep River isn’t the typical small town, however. It was established in the 1940s to support nuclear research and an applied physics organization owned by the Canadian federal government. “When I was a kid, everybody’s parents were scientists and engineers who worked in the nuclear industry,” he says. James earned bachelor’s degrees in English and history from the University of Toronto and a master’s in communications from McGill University in Montréal before receiving his doctorate in communications and media studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2002. “I’ve always been fascinated by the way that stories, storytelling, and mass media shape our understanding of the world,” he says — areas he’s leaning into as he moves forward in his new role. To learn more about James and find where you could fit within the Hopkins community, follow the link below! https://lnkd.in/eXsqUZSR #TalentTuesday #JohnsHopkins #Development
