The Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health is a unique and collaborative Johns Hopkins academic program conducted jointly by the Bloomberg School of Public Health, the School of Medicine, and the School of Nursing. It is hosted by the Department of International Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health and draws upon a variety of disciplines, including epidemiology, demography, emergency and disaster medicine, health systems management, nutrition/food security, environmental engineering, mental health, political science, and human rights. The Center collaborates with a variety of organizations including national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), multilateral and UN organizations, and Governmental agencies, as well as other research institutions on field-based research and humanitarian projects.

The CHH-Lancet Commission on Health, Conflict, and Forced Displacement is now on LinkedIn! The initiative was launched in January 2024 and is led by the Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health. It aims to rethink and reimagine the strategies, architectures, and delivery modes of humanitarian aid. The final report and recommendations are expected to be published by early 2026. The Commission's chair is Paul Spiegel and the co-chairs are Chi-Chi Undie, Ozge Karadag, and Karl Blanchet. The human toll of #Sudan's war is likely far greater than what has been officially recorded, as highlighted by a recent and important London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London report. Dr. Paul Spiegel, who heads the Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health and was not involved in the study, said there were some issues with all three sources of data that could skew the estimates. However, he said the researchers had factored such limitations into their methodology and analysis, and it is an excellent attempt to estimate the number of deaths in such difficult settings. “While it is difficult to know how the various biases in this capture-recapture methodology could affect the overall numbers, it is a novel and important attempt to estimate the number of deaths and bring attention to this horrific war in Sudan,” says Spiegel ?
