Our Mysterious Worlds gala was a resounding success, thanks to our amazing gala Chair, Erica Littlejohn Burnette. Erica introduced the museum and our mission to new people and new places, filling every table! During the program, Erica enjoyed a moment on stage with her daughter, a past participant in our Global Teen Medical Summit. Erica also serves as our Advisory Board Chair and has been an active supporter for years. Thank you, Erica!

Fostering wonder and curiosity about health, medical science, and the human body
关于我们
The Health Museum (The John P. McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science) is an interactive health science center, Smithsonian Affiliate, and a member of the Texas Medical Center. ? In the Amazing Body Gallery, our first permanent exhibit, students embark on a voyage of discovery through the human body and explore science via interactive modules and kiosks, staffed Discovery Carts, and larger-than-life models of human organs. ? Our state-of-the-art, bilingual DeBakey Cell Lab allows patrons to conduct real experiments with authentic lab equipment and goes beyond standard science demonstrations. This cutting-edge, 2,000-square-foot exhibit features eight unique lab stations that use video and audio prompts to encourage visitors to try a variety of chemicals, tests, assays and real-world scientific experiments to replicate medical and health science-related research or experiments conducted in the Texas Medical Center. ? The McGovern Theater is reserved for special viewings of educational films, hosting lectures, luncheon series, school field trip dissections, and seminars. Traveling Exhibits in The Sue Trammell Whitfield Gallery offer ever-changing, dynamic content for The Health Museum, and in turn, bring health education alive in a way that traditional classroom study cannot. Drawing upon Texas Medical Center resources and the expertise of our education staff, The Health Museum creates interactive programming that is fun and makes a lasting impact on young minds.

We had the pleasure of paying tribute to Dr. Peter J. Hotez at our Mysterious Worlds gala! Not only is Dr. Hotez a champion for global health but also offers mentorship for the high school students in our Global Teen Medical Summit, helping spark interest in science, health, and medicine for the next generation.

The opening of our newest community art exhibition, Healing Hands, also served as the launch of our new Healing Arts program, which explores the intersection of art, science, and physical and mental health. Healing Hands is a showcase of the artistic talents of caregivers and is included with admission to the museum!

Our Global Teen Medical Summit teens ended their first day with Dr. Peter Hotez! They had great questions that led to an engaging Q&A. The museum's annual Global Teen Medical Summit is a summer experience for high school students interested in exploring modern-day health and bioscience challenges with experts from the Texas Medical Center.

Appointed as the lead investigators on the case against Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel, DEA special agents Javier Pe?a and Steve Murphy were tasked with the impossible in a foreign land—to bring down the world’s wealthiest and most violent criminal, Pablo Escobar. With a bounty of $300,000 on their heads, every decision could have been their last, every step was fatal. This is the story of “Capturing Pablo” – a riveting event hosted by The Health Museum, in collaboration with the DEA, DEA Citizens Academy, the FBI Houston Division and FBI Citizens Academy Houston Division. Their story has been told through the Netflix show Narcos and their book, Manhunters. The event was more than the recount of a dramatic tale. It was a testament to the bravery and dedication of law enforcement officers who served this country. And a reminder of the devastating impact of illegal drugs on individuals, families and communities.

These Board members were some of our guests at our Fellows Circle appreciation event last week. With a theme around the Year of the Dragon, the catered evening included a Japanese tea garden and a session of Tai Chi. Thank you to all our Fellows Circle Donors - we appreciate your support and enthusiasm for the Museum!
