JAMA attended the Edes Gallery opening event this last week - and we admired the impressive artwork and mass timber construction alike! The grand opening included a T-shirt printing workshop for kids, screen printing on tote bags and live artist demonstrations throughout the space.    The gallery features two floors of art exhibition space with works by more than 40 artists, with rotating walls allowing for flexible gallery. The structural system consists of Masonry shear wall and mass timber gravity framing (CLT slabs and Glulam beams and columns). The exposed mass timber structural system brings warm color to the space and complements the artwork. The Natural History Museum’s new wing NHM Commons had its Opening Day Celebration on Sunday! From booths with arts and crafts activities, to dance routines from regional dance groups, to inspiring discussions about community and the natural world, the opening day celebration was bustling! The centerpiece of the event was of course the Commons project, which includes nearly 50,000 square feet of renovated space in an existing gallery structure and more than 30,000 square feet of new construction, including a 400-seat theater and 2-story lobby with glass façade that shows off the braced frame with dampers designed by JAMA. The building is home to the new 'Gnatalie' dinosaur fossil and mural celebrating Los Angeles history by Barbara Carrasco. JAMA’s relationship with the Natural History Museum of LA County has endured for over two decades, beginning with the initial campus renovation in 2010. We’re so proud to be a part of this latest project at the Museum! Congratulations to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Frederick Fisher and Partners, and MATT Construction on this grand opening.

Proud Trojans James Lee and Matt Timmers represented JAMA at the University of Southern California Football Performance Center ground-breaking this week!   When complete, this state-of-the-art training facility will serve as the new home of Trojan Football. The 180,000 GSF, three-story Center will be a Type IVB building and a hybrid of steel framing, composite concrete and steel deck, glulam columns and roof framing, cross-laminated timber, and concrete shear walls.   We’re excited to watch progress on this new facility – scheduled for a grand opening in 2026! #USC #engineeringexcellence #Trojans

The New Sports Complex for Duarte High School is really starting to take shape! The project team celebrated an important milestone at the recent steel topping out ceremony.   This project includes the construction of a new 30,000 square foot, two-story gymnasium. The program includes a 1,300-seat competition basketball gym, weight training space, wrestling room, dance studio, large concession and lobby space, team rooms, lockers, and various storage/support spaces. JAMA developed the structural system to enable maximum use of space for athletics. The structural system includes a long-span roof supported by 130-foot steel trusses, steel barrel trusses, and concrete tilt-up walls.   Congratulations to the project team on this accomplishment! California State University, Northridge Maple Hall has been included in this year's Engineering News-Record California list of Best Projects - and we couldn't be more thrilled! JAMA provided Structural Engineering services for this 62,000 square foot, multi-story building, the first new academic building on CSUN's campus since 2009. The building design uses natural light, maximizes flexibility, and encourages collaboration among students and professors. Congratulations to our project team on this well-deserved Award of Merit! Last week, JAMA hosted members of the UCLA American Society of Civil Engineers at our office as part of an industry visit! These office trips are exciting opportunities for students to step outside of the classroom and observe a day in the life of an engineer. Our structural designers and project engineers led the students in breakout groups to answer industry questions and show off current and recently completed projects! JAMA is always excited to connect with and support the next generation of engineers. Engineering News-Record California has announced its list of 2024 Best Projects - and we're thrilled that the LAX Terminal Cores and APM Interface project has received an Award of Merit! This six-year, $463-million program served to improve connections to regional transit and modernize terminals - including Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT), Terminal 6, and Terminal 7. We’re incredibly proud of this project and the creativity and teamwork required to design and build it.
