Hi, my name is Joey. Just kidding, I’m not going to start this like that but seriously I hate intros… they always feel so forced and truly awkward. I’m no writer but I do enjoy writing… I have my own style and I like to do things my way. Oh and I’m from Minneapolis, MN & I’m 27 years old. I think the greatest compliment you can receive regarding your work is when someone tells you they instantly knew a photo was taken by you. The fact they say that they can recognize your look/style is something else. It’s strange because I never intended to come up with my own “look” or “style”. I guess it happened organically and I am thankful it did. I first picked up a camera when I was a sophomore at Hopkins Senior High School. The class was called Media Arts and if I am being honest I signed up for it by accident and it ended up being truly a blessing. I found something I love… it gave me an escape from reality. Photography gave me a chance to capture exactly what I wanted to see and for some reason other people have grown to love it. At the end of the day I do it all for fun and if I’m not having fun with it well then the camera stays in the bag. I think the greatest thing about photography is that there is no wrong way to shoot photos. You can do whatever you want, it’s art. But that’s also how you can learn.. not just by going out and taking photos but from other photographers. I always try to pick the brains of other photographers. Asking the simple questions like what are you looking for when you shoot? What are you trying to capture? How do you make it appear that way? Simple questions… but you’ll find that everyone has a different answer. Everyone has their own style. And that is what makes photography so amazing. I try to create something that I truly love. I try to create something that makes me smile. And it just so happens other people enjoy my work just as much as I do. Which makes me incredibly happy.
