We’re honored to have participated in Verizon’s 2024 Atlantic North Leadership Training earlier this month, where the spirit of partnership and giving back was on full display. Verizon has been a steadfast corporate partner of Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation and an inductee into our Hall of Fame—a special recognition we give to our most impactful supporters. We’re also grateful for the leadership and dedication of Christopher Flood, Senior Vice President & Market President of Verizon’s Atlantic North Market, and a valued member of our Board of Directors. Safe At Home’s Co-Founder Joe Torre, Chief Executive Officer Maile Zambuto, and members of the Safe At Home team joined Verizon to share more about our mission and work creating safer, braver spaces for youth impacted by trauma. Together, we made an incredible impact as the Verizon team led a volunteer effort to assemble winter wellness kits for all the kids in our Margaret’s Place programs across New York schools. Swipe through to see the teamwork, generosity, and impact in action. Thank you, Verizon, for standing with us and helping us support the next generation of changemakers! We educate children, families, and communities to be the changemakers who build a safer, braver world.
关于我们
Founded in 2002, the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation helps children impacted by violence and trauma in their homes, schools, and communities. By providing resources and support, our young people are able to cope with their trauma and find hope and healing for their futures. Our model is unique because it’s holistic. At our school locations, we establish a safe room – known as Margaret’s Place, named after Joe Torre’s mother. These rooms are staffed by a full-time, master’s-level therapist. In this setting, we: ? Have group and individual counseling for young people experiencing trauma. ? Hold workshops for teachers to build a safer school environment. ? Hold workshops for parents to make homes and communities stronger. ? Raise awareness on how to prevent violence of all kinds. ? Empower young people to become advocates and leaders. Our areas of focus include family violence, sexual assault, child abuse, intimate partner violence, bullying, and community violence. Our programs are currently in New York City and Westchester County, NY; Los Angeles, CA; Cincinnati, OH; and Union City, NJ. Since our founding, we have provided support to more than 85,000 children nationwide. 95% of our counseling participants said they are more hopeful about their future and 91% say they are more confident and have better self-esteem.

This weekend, the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation Charity Running Team took on the TCS New York City Marathon, pushing through 26.2 miles to raise awareness and funds for our mission. As they recover from race day, we can’t help but reflect on the dedication and commitment it takes to prepare for such a challenge. Months of training, early mornings, and countless miles led to an incredible show of resilience and heart. We’re deeply grateful for each of our runners, who went beyond physical endurance to support Safe At Home’s work to provide safer, braver spaces for young people impacted by trauma. Their hard work and determination inspire us and remind us what’s possible when we work together for a meaningful cause. Thank you to everyone who cheered on and supported the team along the way! Together, we’re building a brighter future for the next generation.

Earlier this month, Safe At Home's Vice President of Programs, Jennifer Herbert, LCAT, ATR-BC, and Regional Program Director, Hilda Aceves, LMFT, ATR , presented at the American Art Therapy Association Annual Conference in Pittsburgh. Their presentations tackled two important topics: "Supporting Adolescent Survivors of Trauma in School Settings" and "Vicarious Trauma, Compassion Fatigue, and Burnout: The Impact on the Clinician." Through art therapy, they explored how creative expression can foster resilience in both students and clinicians alike. We’re proud of Jenny and Hilda for their dedication to advancing trauma-informed care in school settings and for leading conversations on the importance of self-care for those working in trauma-exposed environments.
