You may recall this dream project from the cover of Boston Magazine's Fall 2023 Home issue. Our clients wanted to bring their house (built in 1900) into the modern day, make the kitchen the heart of the home, and create spaces they could fall in love with again and again. We started by expanding the kitchen's footprint into the rear yard while carefully maintaining the home’s original architecture. From there, we dove into a gut renovation of the kitchen and pantry, reconfigured the stairs to the basement, removed the existing stairs and chimney, and redesigned the mudroom and side entry to be more functional. The result is a wide open, professional eat-in kitchen with a large island, walk-in pantry, coffee area, seating area, half bathroom, office nook, and an arched dining room pass-through.
