Thinking about how some of the greatest connections come from shared experiences. Leo, a one-year-old Cocker Spaniel, was born with a cleft lip and palate - a condition that made him different from the start. But that difference is exactly what made him perfect for Randy. Randy was born with Apert Syndrome, a rare craniofacial condition, and has undergone numerous operations at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, including an urgent procedure to open Randy’s airway. His mom, Elsie, a patient advocate for the Cleft and Craniofacial Team, immediately saw the bond that could form between a boy and a puppy who understood each other in ways words couldn’t express. “When I saw Leo’s picture, I knew he was meant to be part of our family. Randy has faced many challenges, and I wanted him to have a companion who truly understood what it’s like to be ‘different.’ Leo is more than a pet; he’s a symbol of resilience and love," said Elsie. When Randy and his mom met Leo, it was meant to be. Now, Leo is training to become a therapy dog, bringing comfort and understanding to children born with cleft and craniofacial conditions, one paw and bright smile at a time. ???? A day of fun and meaningful exploration of various exotic and first responder vehicles. This fun filled day helps us raise awareness about pediatric cardiac diseases during #HeartMonth!??? After years of strength, determination, and unwavering courage, Zion rang the bell at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital! ???? First diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2019, Zion completed treatment in 2022, only to face a relapse later that year. But today, he stands victorious. For his dad, Garth, this moment marks the end of nausea, pain, and fatigue, and the beginning of a future filled with possibility. "It’s been a long journey," Garth said. "He's done jumping over hurdles. The upside? He's finished with chemo. The downside? He’s going to miss everyone here; it’s a family," he says. "That just shows you the love and care that Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital provides." Through every challenge, Zion has shown incredible strength. Thanks to Rita Case and the American Heart Association (FL), families at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and Broward Health will now have access to life-saving Infant and Adult CPR kits.????? Through the generous donation from Rick Case Automotive Group, 250 CPR Anytime Training Kits are being distributed today, part of a larger commitment to deliver 750 kits to families in Broward County hospitals and NICUs over the next three years. This ensures more parents and caregivers are prepared to act in a cardiac emergency. Each year, 23,000 children and 350,000 adults experience cardiac arrest outside the hospital, immediate CPR can double or triple survival rates.
