Students aren't the only ones going #BacktoSchool this fall to an education system in crisis. Teachers today must also provide core instructional experiences to help students prepare for college and develop the skills they need to get #qualityjobs. The reality is that our current learning and work systems, particularly secondary and postsecondary education, are too different from each other to create completely seamless pathways for all students. While some students can successfully navigate between these divergent systems to find success in college and in their careers, many are still struggling. JFF's vision for the #BigBlur argues for a radical restructuring of education for grades 11-14 by erasing the arbitrary dividing line between high school and college to open opportunities for the learners our current systems leave behind. We make the case for an entirely new type of public institution, neither high school nor college, designed to better meet the needs of 16-to-20-year-olds by enabling them to earn a postsecondary credential and prepare for a career—free of charge. In our latest state policy brief on the Big Blur, we reimagine the role of instructors and the structures of our education system that dictate how young adults learn, what they learn, and how they prepare for the world of work. Read the brief to learn more about how states can create dynamic, engaging learn-and-work environments for both instructors and students: https://hubs.ly/Q02PKXBh0 #ReimagineEducation #HigherEd #K12 #StatePolicy #Teachers

From Taipei to Oaxaca, JFF's Taj Ahmad Eldridge has been meeting with global thought leaders to discuss our shared opportunity to drive impact in an increasingly green economy. ?? At Latimpacto's Beyond Frontiers conference this week, Taj spoke on a "Climate Intersections" panel moderated by ImpactAlpha's Dennis Price. As managing director of Climate Innovation incubated practice at JFFLabs, Taj and our team are working to inform, educate, and upskill individuals for climate-resilient jobs through innovation and collaboration across sectors, regions, new business models, and capital investments. Thank you Latimpacto for this wonderful carbon neutral event in Oaxaca to speak about the importance of truly driving impact. Special thanks to María Carolina Suarez Visbal Janeth Londo?o Becerra ImpactAlpha for inviting me and to my fellow panelist who brought truth in Spanish, Portuguese, and English Facundo Etchebehere Ellen Acioli and moderator Dennis Price. Great seeing supporters from both sides of my life’s work from investing with the team at Sonen Capital LLC to the non profit work with GitLab Foundation’s Roger Joseph Perez Our talk was about the climate intersections on health, people, culture, investment and workforce which mirrored the talk I had only a week before in Taipei with APEC - Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation & the Taiwan Workforce Development Agency. Preparing workers in the green economy in the US means we have to look beyond borders to find the new frontiers.

JFF kept a close eye on last night’s presidential #debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, hoping for responses from both candidates on the issues voters really care about, like education, quality jobs, and the economy. But did they deliver? Not really. With just 54 days to go until voters hit the ballot boxes, many were eager to hear where both candidates stand on key policy issues, especially Vice President Kamala Harris who announced her campaign less than two months ago. When asked about economic issues, Harris mentioned her plan to build an #OpportunityEconomy that would address affordable housing, help small businesses, and support families. Former President Donald Trump mentioned his prior work to help create jobs and support tariffs and noted recent issues around inflation. But that’s about it. According to a recent voter survey commissioned by JFF, 4 in 5 voters say that employment and economic issues are a priority for them this election cycle. It was a disappointment that the debate didn’t spend more time on these topics. Strong majorities of voters—at least 80% —agree that the following issues are important this election season: ?? Encouraging employers to hire people based on their skills and not whether they hold a college degree. ?? Providing high school students with opportunities to develop job-related skills. ?? Ensuring all people working full-time jobs can earn a high enough wage to support their families. ?? Making information more readily available about job opportunities in the local area that pay a family-supporting wage. JFF’s #NoDeadEnds campaign is a road map for fixing our broken learning and work systems to eliminate the dead ends that millions of workers and learners face at school, on the job, and in their lives. We call on both presidential candidates, as well as policymakers from both parties, to push for bipartisan policy solutions that: ?? Empower people with the data, guidance, and resources that enable them to navigate their work and learning journeys and flourish throughout their lives. ?? Recognize everyone’s skills, knowledge, and expertise, regardless of when and where their learning and development experiences occur. ?? Blur the lines between learning and work systems to foster common purpose among educators and employers and smooth pathways to economic advancement. ??? Help people get ahead during times of economic uncertainty and personal adversity. It’s not clear whether voters will get another opportunity to see Harris and Trump on stage together hashing out their plans to support learners and workers. However, we’re asking all candidates running for national, state, and local office to make workforce and education policies a top campaign issue for 2024. Read our No Dead Ends policy road map for actionable policy recommendations on how to do just that: https://hubs.la/Q02Py_sh0 #Debate2024 #Election2024 #qualityjobs #education
