Job Path NYC
非盈利组织
Job Path supports people with autism and other developmental disabilities at home, on the job, and in their communities.
关于我们
Since 1978, Job Path has been encouraging people with developmental disabilities to explore what they want out of life and then to chart their own journeys. Through our programs, we provide the opportunities and support for people to succeed at whatever they want – whether it’s paid or volunteer work, living in their own homes, or participating in community life. In other words, to lead the same kind of life we all want.

On a recent afternoon in a sunny classroom, Jerry R. held aloft a brightly colored children’s book titled “I Like Myself,” and started to read to a group of students.? “How many of you guys like yourselves?” he asked. “We can be happy because we like ourselves.” Jerry recently celebrated 10 years of working at the school - the International Academy of Hope, a specialized school for students aged 5-21 with traumatic brain injury and multiple disabilities run by YAI. “Through all the changes our program has gone through as we’ve grown, one thing has remained constant: Jerry’s positivity,” says Courtney Nelson, the school’s Director of Operations. “Jerry never misses the opportunity to cheer on a student working toward their goals and always takes the time to greet team members and check-in. Over the years, he has assisted with the preparation of valuable educational materials for classrooms and has engaged with students by leading activities such as Storytime and Jamz with Jerry. His unwavering optimism and encouragement make any day working with Jerry a good day.” In addition to the milestone at the school, Jerry also recently celebrated a one-year anniversary working as a weekend play facilitator at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. At the school, Jerry says he especially enjoys when students get excited and respond to his tales, and he also appreciates his coworkers. “Everyone here is wonderful to work with, they're like family,” he said. “I feel comfortable here.” #disability #DisabilityInclusion? #EmploymentEquity #DevelopmentalDisabilities? #autism

NYC’s hospitality industry pros can get a close-up look at the Customized Employment approach after Job Path was featured in a video on the website for the networking group, Together Hospitality. The video interview is between the group’s President Kate Edwards and Kelly McGrath, who was recently named Coordinator for the Consortium for Customized Employment (CCE,) a project of Job Path. “That’s what I loved hearing is how you try and find a specific job or task that might be onerous, or challenging, or difficult, or not being done by the organization and you identify that task so someone specifically can fill it,” says Edwards.? McGrath, who most recently was an employment specialist at Job Path says: “We go in so the business feels like they are gaining something as well - it’s actually to fulfill a need.” Twice a year, Together Hospitality selects a nonprofit to serve as a Social Impact partner inviting the organization’s staff to participate in networking opportunities. Job Path recently concluded its term for that role. Thanks again to the Together Hospitality team, and sending all our best to your next Social Impact partner, Hot Bread Kitchen!?? https://lnkd.in/ez2ypgaU
