Visionary design elevating the ecological & social health of communities + providing innovative landscape stewardship
关于我们
Joanna Pertz Landscape Architecture (JPLA) is an award-winning woman-owned practice that brings together refined design and environmental expertise to create timeless landscapes that enrich the ecological and social health of our communities. JPLA has over 25 years of experience designing and building landscapes in New York City and beyond. Our clients include Architects, Developers, City Agencies, Healthcare Providers, Educational Institutions, and Non-profit Organizations. Our portfolio of work includes a range of scales and project types including multi-family, affordable and senior housing developments, playgrounds, schools, hospitals and healthcare campuses, waterfront parks, roof terraces, and private gardens. As a practice, JPLA fulfills a unique niche in providing both high-level landscape architectural design services and long-term horticultural support. This combination bridges design and operations which provides invaluable benefits to our clients’ projects, sustaining them and helping them grow over time. We are committed to placemaking and motivated by a passion for plants and the materials of landscape. We aim to create connections between people, nature, and place. Beyond the duration of each project, we aim to cultivate stewardship to ensure that our designed landscapes are mutually beneficial for plants, animals and people. JPLA brings to each project a facility with the tools of conceptual design, technical construction, innovative thinking, and attention to detail. Through a thoughtful design process, JPLA responds to the specific character of the adjacent buildings, the site’s micro-climate, and natural and cultural surroundings to develop an understanding of the project’s unique context. As a small practice, our methodology is lean and efficient, and our attention to communication and coordination ensures that projects stay on schedule and budget. Our top priority is to translate our client’s vision into a successful and sustainable design.

What if your project’s landscape required less water, maintenance, and chemical inputs? Using #nativeplants creates self-sustaining ecosystems that thrive in local conditions, supporting #biodiversity while reducing upkeep. #JPLA #ArchitectureFirmsNY #sustainabledesign

If you've been following the progress of the #NYCHA AMB Audubon House's #birdsculpture, we're on to the next step. Using JPLA's worked file from the 3D scan, our pre-caster used a CNC router to create a full-size foam model. It was then delivered to our Studio, where Joanna carved the foam and added a denser form to refine and articulate the sculpture. It was returned to the pre-caster to receive a seal coating prior to the application of a rubber mold. Care to guess the next step? #JPLA #LandscapeArchitectureNYC #customsculpture #placemaking #naturalplayspace

Great #architecture starts with understanding the land. Before sketching a building, consider the topography, microclimate, and ecology. A well-integrated design respects nature instead of fighting it. #ArchitectsNYC #LandscapeArchitectsNYC

Spending time in nature is linked to many positive #mentalhealth outcomes – improved focus, lower stress, better mood, and reduced risk of developing a mental health condition. However, you don’t need a picture-perfect outdoor experience to get the benefits of nature. Learn more from Mental Health America at https://buff.ly/nzQYBzT. When added to soil, #compost creates a 3D web that sets firm soil, allows for more oxygen, feeds more organisms to breathe, and allows water to move slowly through the #soil. In poor soil, water pushes through, taking with it much-needed organic and microorganisms. As stewards of the land, our Maintenance Oversight Program recommends using compost for higher-quality soil that will better support the landscape. #landstewardship #sustainablelandscapearchitecture #landscapearchitecture #NYlandscapearchitecture

Spring is only a week away! These daffodils at Tres Puentes, a building serving low-income seniors in the Bronx, NY, were an inexpensive way to brighten a space in the spring and make a big impact. #JPLA is a big fan of shifting from annual plantings to the use of naturalizing bulbs that not only come back every year but multiply in numbers over time. #landscapearchitectureNYC #sustainablelandscaping CLIENT: West Side Federation for Senior Housing, Inc. The next step in creating our custom bird sculptures for #NYCHA's Audubon House community garden was a 3D scan of the scale model and adjusting it within the computer program. Stay tuned as we continue to explore the multi-step process to create this avian garden #sculpture. #birdsculpture #gardensculpture #JoannaPertzLandscapeArchitecture

Native plants are plant species that historically grew, or currently grow, in a particular place and are not the result of human introduction. There are over 1,300 plant species native to the five boroughs of #NewYorkCity. #JPLA #nativeplants #landscapearchitectureNYC #NYnativeplants

We are thrilled to be using stone in these landscapes for #NYCpublichousing. This granite met the budget and will gracefully sustain the rigger of public space. These sit steps and a central planter create a timeless anchor for the central gathering circle at #BethuneGardens, a New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) project. This space is the heart of the landscape, where we envision residents enjoying coming together on a spring morning or summer evening. Look out for images of the completed project.
