Ashton Jeanty is having a monster season. Early in the season he was the odds-on favorite for the #Heisman and on pace to match Barry Sanders' outwardly 1988 season (2628 yards). Despite falling off that pace, through week 10 he has more rushing yards, and tied for most touchdowns of any Heisman winning running back since Barry Sanders. Would he be getting more love if he was doing all this for an undefeated University of Oregon team instead of a one-loss Boise State University team? Maybe. But its worth acknowledging that we haven't seen a running back of this caliber for over 25 years. Why do I care? He reminds me of Barry. Early '90's me had a poster of Barry on my wall, he was my favorite player and as a result, the Lions were my favorite team for a number of years. The guy was simply amazing. Seeing a modern running back even sniff at the incredible talent of Barry Sanders is fun to watch.
