I watched Minnie's Food Pantry demonstrate some key principles that I share with nonprofit organizations. 1. When you lead an organization, it is important to set the expectation of your volunteers. The spirit in which you serve is just as important as the service you provide. 2. Acknowledge the team. Show value for those who work behind the scenes or in any capacity. No one does this great work alone. 3. Make sure you show appreciation for your sponsors and major contributors. 4. Plan and execute. I was also reminded of a few things that caused me to pause in a moment of reflection. 1. Don’t judge a person’s need based on external indicators. 2. Don’t assume that volunteers understand the importance of the work. Share your why or explain the impact on the target audience. 3. Honor the humility it takes for someone to reach out for help. If not for grace, it could be anyone of us. 4. Don’t apologize for setting high expectations for your organization or be afraid if someone walks away because they won’t comply. Thank you Dr. Cheryl Jackson for leading with love, excellence and unapologetically. It was a privilege to serve alongside you and your organization. #cherylaction Jeanna Davis
