"President Trump’s 25% tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada took effect first thing Tuesday. Canada responded with plans to?impose 25% tariffs?on nearly $100 billion of U.S. imports, and Mexico's president said it would also retaliate, with a range of moves to?be announced Sunday. The U.S. also introduced an extra 10% tariff on Chinese imports overnight, adding to a levy imposed a month ago, and other existing duties. China?swiftly announced retaliatory tariffs?on U.S. agricultural goods, and?other measures against American companies. Beijing also filed a lawsuit with the?World Trade Organization." - The Wall Street Journal https://lnkd.in/e7e4cDv3 Betty Robson George Robson Victoria Black Kim Chouinard, CPA Natasha Oliveira, SHRM-SCP Scott Chipperfield Lynn Baltz Justin Nichols, MBA Gerri Del Vecchio Runge Nick Ioannou Mary Robbins Pola Perera Edward Tate

"President?Donald Trump?said the US would impose tariffs on “external” agricultural products starting on April 2, his latest threat to impose trade barriers on imported goods. “To the Great Farmers of the United States: Get ready to start making a lot of agricultural product to be sold INSIDE of the United States. Tariffs will go on external product on April 2nd. Have fun!” the president said Monday in a social media post. The president did not provide more detail on which products would be affected, or if there would be any exceptions. It’s also unclear if his plan is part of a previously announced effort to enact so-called “reciprocal” tariffs on nearly all US trading partners." - Bloomberg News https://lnkd.in/gaFXSvkS Betty Robson George Robson Victoria Black Kim Chouinard, CPA Natasha Oliveira, SHRM-SCP Scott Chipperfield Lynn Baltz Justin Nichols, MBA Gerri Del Vecchio Runge Nick Ioannou Mary Robbins Pola Perera Edward Tate

The White House has announced updates to de minimis regulations at both the Southern and Northern borders, affecting duty-free treatment for certain imports. Under the revised policy, duty-free de minimis treatment (19 U.S.C. 1321) will remain available for eligible goods but will end once the Secretary of Commerce confirms that systems are in place to fully process and collect applicable tariffs. This change comes as part of broader trade policy shifts, including the implementation of new tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada, set to take effect this Tuesday. Further details on the tariff rollout are expected to be released later today. "WASHINGTON, Feb 27 (Reuters) - U.S. President?Donald Trump?on Thursday said his proposed 25% tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods will take effect on Tuesday, along with an extra 10% duty on Chinese imports because deadly drugs are still pouring into the U.S. from those countries. The fresh China tariffs, in addition to the?10% tariff?levied on February 4, coincide with the start of China's annual parliamentary meetings on Wednesday, a setpiece political event where Beijing is expected to unveil its main economic priorities for 2025." - Reuters https://lnkd.in/e9-gJCn9 Betty Robson George Robson Victoria Black Kim Chouinard, CPA Natasha Oliveira, SHRM-SCP Scott Chipperfield Lynn Baltz Justin Nichols, MBA Gerri Del Vecchio Runge Nick Ioannou Mary Robbins Pola Perera Edward Tate

A message from Mary Robbins, JF Moran's Business Development Manager, on the latest updates to freight rates amid an uncertain market: "Over the last few months, we have seen a volatile ocean freight market with increasing rates as a result of unprecedented factors such as potential strikes, increased tariffs, and the Lunar New Year. Now that all of these events have passed, I reached out to our overseas partner agent for insight on what we can expect. We were informed that rates typically decline this time of year due to lower demand, and now, coupled with the additional tariffs, lower freight rates are expected. We will continue to work to provide our clients with the best possible rates while prioritizing timely delivery of your goods."
