Looking for a meaningful way to give back? Camp Mariposa mentors make a genuine difference in the lives of children! Camp Mariposa provides a fun and supportive environment for children ages 9-12 who are affected by the substance use disorder of a family member. Mentors are an important part of making this program a success: leading traditional camp activities, ensuring the safety of campers, and serving as positive role models. In 1950, Janet's father Mort Gordon, a newly minted PhD in theoretical physics, faced blindness from retinitis pigmentosa and was denied his dream job. Along with his new bride, Bernice, a college graduate with spina bifida, the couple defied societal expectations by supporting each other, advancing physics, and raising daughters steeped in Jewish culture, curiosity, and social action.
