For over a century, the Buffalo Jewish Federation has been at the center of the Jewish community. We are the safety net that enables Jews to fulfill our obligations to take care of each other. Today, we are a vibrant hub of a community that celebrates Jewish life. With a deep commitment to strengthening our organizational and agency partners, creating space for innovation and experimentation, developing and growing sources of funding, and nurturing human capital, Federation inspires individuals to access Jewish tradition in powerful and transformative ways, rousing collective energy and collective action throughout our network of communities.     Jewish Federations of North America are appalled, outraged, and disgusted by Hamas’s cruel and deceitful psychological warfare against the Bibas family, the State of Israel, and the Jewish people. Not only did these terrorists kidnap Kfir and Ariel Bibas, two young children—aged just nine months and four years—but forensic evidence shows that they brutally murdered them roughly a month into their captivity. Further, they lied about returning the body of their mother, Shiri, adding to the immense pain of the family. In case it was not yet clear to anyone, Hamas cannot be allowed to remain in power. Jewish Federations send our deepest condolences and love to the Bibas family and our brothers and sisters in Israel during this horrific period.

    The Jewish community today is overwhelmed with emotion as we welcome Romi Gonen, Emily Damari, and Doron Steinbrecher, back home after 471 days in captivity. Romi Gonen was shot and kidnapped from the Nova music festival. Emily Damari, the last remaining British hostage in Gaza, was also shot when she was abducted. Doron Steinbrecher was taken from her home at Kibbutz Kfar Aza. Every day for over 15 months, we have been thinking about them, praying for them, and advocating for their release. They have lived through an unimaginable nightmare, and our community will do whatever we can to help them on the long journey of healing and reintegration that lies ahead of them. We are hopeful that over the coming weeks, we will see continued hostage releases until every last one of the remaining 95 hostages are returned home.

Last weekend, we welcomed a series of speakers to the Burchfield Penney Art Center where they shared their entrepreneurial success stories. Our moderator, Dan Miner, led an incredible panel discussion with Eric Reich, Dave Horesh, Julia Jornsay-Silverberg, and Janna Willoughby-Lohr who shared captivating stories of their enterprises in Buffalo.
