关于我们
The Jewish Women’s Archive documents Jewish women’s stories, elevates their voices, and inspires them to be agents of change. JWA envisions a world that values the diversity and complexity of Jewish women and gender-expansive people, past and present, learning from their stories and inspiring future generations. JWA explores the past as a framework for understanding the issues important to women today; mobilizes young people with remarkable role models; and uses Jewish women’s stories to inspire people to see themselves as history makers. We believe that crafting a more diverse narrative helps create a richer, more complete present and future. JWA intentionally makes space for people of all Jewish traditions and identities, including Jews of Color, LGBTQ+ Jews, Jews with disabilities, and Jews by choice. Today, JWA is the world’s largest collection of information on Jewish women. Each year, millions of people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds, from more than 230 countries, engage with and rely on JWA’s resources. JWA hosts public programs; trains the thought leaders of tomorrow through the Rising Voices Fellowship; sparks conversation with its blog, podcast, and social media presence; and is a leading voice in feminist and Jewish spheres.

What a wonderful opening of our own Hannah Altman's new show!
What a fabulous opening last night of HBI's newest exhibition, Hannah Altman's "As It Were, Suspended in Midair", at the Kniznick Gallery! Thanks to Jewish Women's Archive for sponsoring the reception and to all those who joined us! In "As It Were, Suspended in Midair", Hannah Altman’s photographs examine how Jewish myths are shared, inherited, and reshaped across the diaspora. Altman draws from Yiddish literature and Jewish mystical texts as she situates her female protagonists in lush landscapes and fraught interiors. Animated by sunlight, their postures, gestures, environments, and ritual objects foreshadow abundance and danger. The exhibit is open now through June 12 at the Kniznick Gallery at Brandeis University. See https://bit.ly/HBIArt for information about visiting and upcoming exhibition events.

We’re thrilled to announce the inaugural cohort of the new Pomegranate Writing Fellowship for Jewish Women of Color! https://buff.ly/4jS9BpN With this new program, JWA leans into its longstanding commitment to diversifying the narratives of Jewish history and lifting up the voices of Jewish women of all backgrounds. This intensive investment in a cohort of Jewish women of color will help nurture community at a time when they are feeling increasingly vulnerable and will support and promote their thought leadership in the Jewish world and beyond. Meet the Fellows: * Sai Jallow Edelstein, born and raised in the Gambia, whose peripatetic life and eclectic education have given her a wry and incisive perspective on the human experience. * Rachel Faulkner, a community organizer, social justice advocate, and anti-racist educator who is passionate about ensuring that the voices of Jewish Women of Color are centered in Judaism and in the greater world. *Emily McDonnell, a PhD candidate and self-described “NavaJew” (Navajo+Jew) raised on the Navajo reservation who is always looking for new ways to blend her unique identities. *Anjelica Ruiz, Director of Libraries and Archives at Temple Emanu-El in Dallas and an alumna of the Union for Reform Judaism’s JewV’Nation Fellowship and Bend the Arc’s Selah Leadership Program. *Hannah Joy Sachs, an experiential educator who has led immersive programs for young adults and emerging change makers around the world and considers many parts of East and Southeast Asia “home." Our inaugural cohort was chosen from a highly competitive pool of 120 applicants with a wide range of racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, ages, and writing experiences. We're grateful to the Jews of Color Initiative and SRE Network for seed funding for this program. Learn more about the Pomegranate Fellows: https://buff.ly/4gDVotP
