As National Hospice and Palliative Care Month comes to an end, we'd like to highlight the story of one of our many committed and compassionate volunteers who serve our patients around Montgomery County. “It can be hard for families as they watch their loved one change,” volunteer Holly Radice says. “As a volunteer, I just get to enjoy the person where they are.” https://lnkd.in/eBEMDEkk #HospiceCare #EndOfLifeCare #VolunteerAppreciation

关于我们
JSSA is a trusted health and social wellness agency serving the National Capital Region. We help neighbors and their families through their most vulnerable moments with warmth and acceptance. We focus on four areas of care: supporting people with mental health challenges; helping people with disabilities find meaningful jobs; caring for older adults so they can safely age at home, and offering dignity and comfort to hospice patients. That is what our neighbors need most, and we know that because we’ve been adapting to meet their changing needs for 130 years. We’ve learned that everyone needs support at some point. JSSA is always here, ready to help. Our goal is to make essential care and quality of life accessible to everyone.

JSSA is setting a HUGE goal for Giving Tuesday: to reach 375 families in need, with gift cards to uplift them during the holiday season. Every qualifying family will receive $25 per person! Gift cards give each person the dignity to select items that will be most beneficial for them, whether that be medicine, groceries, or holiday gifts. Help us reach 375 families this Giving Tuesday! Your donation is a gesture of generosity and community – please give now. https://bit.ly/JSSAGT

"More than anything else you choose to do, perhaps what is most important is what you decide not to do, at least in the first year following a death." This small piece of advice from our bereavement is among many recommendations for navigating the holiday season after a loss. Our bereavement team works with our neighbors daily to support them spiritually and emotionally in their grief. Call 240-800-JSSA if our team can help you today. https://lnkd.in/eXkBVsJY

Adolescence is a time of critical change and development, and a time when mental health challenges may first emerge for youth. Students struggling with mental health issues may experience falling grades and relationship issues or may turn to substance abuse. An innovative new program developed by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing is offering an innovative new way to help detect mental health struggles for teens: Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA). JSSA is proud to collaborate with key partners to bring this critical resource to Montgomery County Public Schools. We're excited to share 25 students (ages 14-18) completed their training in October. The training provides teens with the skills to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among their peers. JSSA plans to train 84 students this school year. This initiative is sponsored by JSSA partner Our Minds Matter, and our collaboration is made possible by a Community Health Resources Commission (CHRC) grant. We’re excited to be facilitating opportunities for youth to provide effective peer support as our communities continue to grapple with a youth mental health crisis.
