Connect with Purpose
关于我们
The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington envisions an open, connected, and vibrant Jewish community that cares for each other, fosters Jewish learning and journeys, embraces Jewish peoplehood and Israel, and acts as a force for good in the world. Our mission is to inspire, build, and sustain vibrant Jewish life in a changing world by mobilizing our community in common purpose, intentional innovation, and effective action. Federation supports 58 local agencies, 14 national organizations, 18 overseas partners and programs, and 60+ congregations that care for those in need, deepen engagement in Jewish life and connect Jews locally, in Israel, and around the world. Justice for the poor, honoring seniors, supporting those who are ill or in crisis, nurturing and educating our children, inclusion of all, and helping refugees find freedom and economic self-sufficiency are central to our values and the programs we support. We are equally committed to inspiring learning and experiences in order to shape our Jewish communal identity. Formal education opportunities and informal Jewish experiences like summer camps, youth groups and trips to Israel provide learning, recreational, cultural and social activities that nourish our bodies and our minds. We connect with purpose through our culture, history, and identity.

Calling all students: join our partners at the Jewish Council for the Aging (JCA) for the L'Chaim Chorale and make music across the generations. The L'Chaim Chorale brings together the JCA's Kensington Club members - adults in the early stages of diagnosed memory loss - with students from the DC area to sing beautiful music, build relationships, and make connections! Check out the flyer below for more details.

Staff Spotlight: Meet Shay HaLevi "Every day, I get to work closely with organizations and individuals to create safer environments, ensuring that they can focus on their missions without fear. JShield's work is crucial because it not only addresses immediate security concerns but also fosters a culture of preparedness, resilience, and collaboration. Knowing that my efforts contribute to the safety and well-being of others is incredibly rewarding." Shay joined Federation last year as the Deputy Director of Community Security for our JShield security division. As a former detective for the Israeli Special Police Force and a former security director at Charles E Smith Jewish Day School, Shay brings over a decade of experience in community safety, threat assessment, and investigation. We're thrilled to have him on our team!

CEO Gil Preuss visited the Alin Beit Noam Ilanot National Rehabilitation Center yesterday to hear about the organization's efforts to support adults with disabilities and their families. The Center is a grant recipient of Federation's Israel Crisis Relief Fund, and our community's support has strengthened their efforts to build inclusive spaces for veterans and others living with new disabilities since October 7th. Watch Gil's interview with Amir Bar-Haim, CEO of Alin Beit Noam, to hear about the Center's impact and Amir's message to our Greater Washington community.

The vibe at Crush Bar DC earlier this month was fun and lively, but our Next Gen division's first LGBTQ+ focused event also marked a meaningful moment for our Jewish community. As one attendee remarked, “There was a time when [the queer community] had to be entirely self-sufficient to survive. [Now] we have the support needed to thrive, and we aren’t alone.” We were proud to bring together our partners from Keshet, Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center GLOE, Congregation Bet Mishpachah, and NJB+ for this evening of networking, and to mark the opening of the @Capital Jewish Museum exhibit on LGBTQ+ Jewish History in DC. In your 20s, 30s, or 40s and want to get involved with Next Gen? Reach out to the team at [email protected].
