Jew-ish Book Coun-cil, found-ed in 1943, is the longest-run-ning orga-ni-za-tion devot-ed exclu-sive-ly to the sup-port and cel-e-bra-tion of Jew-ish literature. Inau-gu-rat-ed in 1950, the Nation-al Jew-ish Book Awards is the longest-run-ning North Amer-i-can awards pro-gram of its kind and is rec-og-nized as the most pres-ti-gious. The Awards are intend-ed to rec-og-nize authors, and encour-age read-ing, of out-stand-ing Eng-lish-lan-guage books of Jew-ish interest. Through the JBC Net-work and Read On pro-grams, Jew-ish Book Coun-cil coor-di-nates over 1,100 lit-er-ary events each year across North Amer-i-ca. For authors, this is an oppor-tu-ni-ty to intro-duce their Jew-ish-inter-est books to com-mu-ni-ties across the coun-try and beyond. For pro-gram direc-tors, this is a chance to access a wide selec-tion of Jew-ish-inter-est authors for book fairs, fes-ti-vals, and cul-tur-al events. Paper Brigade, JBC's annual literary journal, is named in hon-or of the group of writ-ers and intel-lec-tu-als in the Vil-na Ghet-to who res-cued thou-sands of Jew-ish books and doc-u-ments from destruc-tion by the Nazis. The pub-li-ca-tion reflects today’s diverse Jew-ish lit-er-ary land-scape in Amer-i-ca and abroad. Paper Brigade was a final-ist for CLM-P’s 2018 Fire-crack-er Award for Best Debut Magazine. On Paper Brigade Daily, JBC publishes essays, interviews, reading lists, and more online each week. JBC?Book Clubs pro-vides resources and sup-port to book clubs read-ing books of Jew-ish inter-est.
