Since September 23, 2024, Lebanon has experienced a tragic escalation of violence, displacing over 1.2 million people. The conflict has claimed more than 3,481 lives and injured 14,786 individuals, according to the Ministry of Health. Nearly two months have passed since the violence intensified, and the situation continues to devastate families across the country. In response, JRS Lebanon has been providing critical support through food and non-food baskets to assist families during these difficult times. Between September 23 and November 15, 2024, we have served 13,457 individuals from 3,288 families, delivering essential relief to those in greatest need. ?Urgent Action Alert: H.R. 9495 is a bill that has the potential to endanger nonprofits and the work we do by allowing the government to terminate the tax-exempt status of nonprofits by way of the Secretary of Treasury, who would have full and sole authority to designate charities “terrorist-supporting organizations” – with no requirement to share evidence or reasoning with the accused nonprofit or the public at large. After failing to gain the support it needed to move forward last week, it has now passed the Rules committee and will be voted on in the full House TOMORROW (Thursday) morning.
