???? Distracted driving is a huge issue, but what if we could solve it... with a game? ?? According to a Penn Medicine study, turning the fight against distracted driving into a competition might be the secret sauce to keeping people's eyes off their phones while behind the wheel. In this current economy, where work feels like a 9-9, we need to set healthier boundaries with texting and driving. But who would have thought games would be the best way to help people stop engaging in such dangerous behavior? That's right, we're gamifying road safety, and the results are ??! Imagine reducing your phone use by 28% by competing with others to see who can be the safest driver. ???? Dr. Kit Delgado and his team paired up with Progressive Insurance's Snapshot program, using leaderboards, competition, and even small cash rewards to motivate safer behavior on the road. This is similar to an example cited by Yu-Kai Chou, who believed that if we set up a lottery for safe drivers to win prize money at the end of the month, we could see improvements in safe driving practices. Level up when you're doing well, and lose points when you backslide. It's simple, right? And guess what? It worked! ??? By the end of the study, participants were driving safer and using their phones less, and the results stayed even after the game ended. ?? Insurance companies are loving this—safer drivers = fewer payouts. It's a win-win! This begs the question: Should we begin gamifying the reduction of dangerous behaviors? We could apply these to addicts, dietitians, and many more! Perhaps insurance companies will implement this to help drivers be safer and maintain their monthly payments. This is the power of gamification, people! ?? Who knew saving lives could be as simple as upping your game? ?? #Gamification #SafeDriving #Improvement

Behind Google's success and innovation, discover the graveyard of trials and errors.?? Do you remember "Google Hangouts"? It's one of the 295 projects "killed by Google" (as of today) Killed by Google is the Google graveyard, a list of discontinued Google services, products, devices, and apps. It serves as a good reminder that innovation is not only the result of a genius who creates amazing new things. On the contrary, the innovation process must iterate and experiment, using what we have learned to improve current and future projects. As Marcos Westphalen said in a post: "Innovation isn't the result of a genius but the result of generations". Illustration by me ??. Thank you, Marcos, for the inspiration.
