JESPY House clients welcomed volunteers from Columbia Bank New Jersey this week for their Annual Day of Giving. We loved having you back at JESPY House! Volunteers and clients honed their creative skills with Kumihimo, a Japanese yarn craft. JESPY clients love having visitors and engaging with new people. Programs like this allow our clients to advance their social skills and gain a better understanding of the community at large. JESPY announces a new Records Management Business scanning and digitizing paper records. The South Orange nonprofit, which provides support services for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities age 18 and above, is also excited to be in partnership with the Jewish Historical Society (JHS). The collaboration involves creating a digital archive of important documents from the Bob Max collection.? ? Participating JESPY clients worked on document preparation which included removing staples, unfolding papers, and ensuring that fragile antique photos and papers were handled with care.?This work will help preserve the archive and allow the JHS to share its historic resources across multiple platforms. Clients found the archival work very interesting and informative. They have also worked on New Jersey Judiciary civil and criminal court papers. ? The South Orange Planning Board voted to approve JESPY’s application for The JESPY Center, a fully accessible building which will provide 31 units serving at least 46 clients, adults with Intellectuals and Developmental Disabilities, with affordably-priced and aging in place housing as well as enhanced service and program space for JESPY House clients.?This is a MAJOR step to moving this project forward! I strongly believe that employment is very important for me and for others with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities because working in worthwhile jobs at interesting places gives us purpose in life and a sense of pride. It also builds our self-esteem, earns us recognition by organizations and their audiences, and makes us effective contributors to society." The job enabled me to purchase any extra groceries I wanted to buy to serve my guests.?I also used the money I earned to pay my transportation bills.?I feel that it is important for a person with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to feel independent. Last night 10 JESPY House clients walked the runway in Spiotta Park for the third annual South Orange Downtown Fashion Show featuring the latest fashions from Sadie's Shop LLC. Artistry Salon by Ampy Moreno styled our models hair and Sam helped make our clients runway ready.
