The BIGGEST misunderstanding when it comes to pitching… ? pitching = selling ? After all, you’re trying to “sell” investors or clients on your business, right? But over hundreds of pitches, I’ve learned… → Pitching is demonstrating you understand THE problem. → Whoever proves they understand their market's problem with a valid solution best, wins. It applies whether you’re pitching for investment or business. For example, let’s say you’re pitching an app that delivers groceries. Simply talking about your app’s features won’t compel investors. They see slick apps every day! Instead, highlight consumer frustration around existing solutions: “Grocery delivery today has 3 key pain points: X, Y, Z. Our app elegantly solves them through [your key solution]. People are demanding this [insert market research traction], so we’ll dominate the market!” In just 2 minutes, you can demonstrate this understanding and your game-changing solution. Hook attention fast by revealing you grasp the landscape and what people are desperately searching for. That’s what pitching is truly about. What pitch misunderstandings have you run into? Struggling to finish your pitch deck? ?? Avoid these 3 common mistakes to increase your chances of success ?? → Copying someone else’s approach ?? It’s tempting to model your deck after another successful business. But unless your business is identical, (in which case we have a bigger problem at hand) this shortcut often backfires. Your business deserves a customised deck tailored to YOUR goals and audience. ?? → Having just one pitch document ?? Sending your full deck upfront gives too much away too soon. I suggest having at least two versions — a main deck to present in person, and a one-page teaser to entice meetings. The teaser gives just enough info to whet an investors appetite so they're keen to learn more! ?? → Using standard templates ?? Standard Pitch .io and Canva templates scream “I took the easy way out!” You have to remember, investors see hundreds of decks, so making sure yours is bespoke to your brand with creative visuals and formatting will make yours stand out. I love tools like Pitch .io but only when they're used well and bespoke to the needs of the brand. Your pitch deck conveys so much about your brand.
