A Jenner & Block team led by Partner Annie Kastanek secured a win in the Illinois Supreme Court for the City of Rolling Meadows after the Court affirmed that the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) has exclusive jurisdiction over sales tax misallocation disputes between municipalities. ? This decision reaffirms the legislature's intent to create a comprehensive statutory scheme for tax disputes and provides clarity to municipalities about the proper forum for resolving tax misallocation issues. ? As talk of ceasefire on the Russia-Ukraine conflict captures global attention, Russia is also battling in the English courts over a 2014 arbitration ruling against its expropriation of the Yukos oil and gas company. The English Court of Appeal recently rejected Russia's sovereign immunity argument, clearing the path for enforcement of a $63 billion (￡48.5 billion) award in the UK, where over ￡25 billion in Russian state assets are said to be frozen. This case highlights London’s strength as a leading arbitration hub, with its courts remaining robust in upholding arbitration awards, including against states and state entities.
