The Importance of EMS Service-Based Educators: https://ow.ly/NL9V50UgkTs The value of an EMS educator to a service cannot be underestimated. A position such as this is a responsibility for ensuring engagement with all the members, at all levels with what is current in emergency medicine and ensuring skills of each person on the roster. It is a great role for an experienced provider who is closing in on the end of an EMS career and wants to stay engaged and help usher in the next generation of providers.

The Devastating Effects on First-Responder Mental Health Caused by Hurricane Helene: https://ow.ly/5EHG50Uf9b6 Hurricane Helene has taken its toll on everyone. And now we must ask, “How do we recover from this event?” On the first-responder side, I cannot imagine the level of rehabilitation we need, and how many staff will we lose to suicide or abusive behaviors. The simple fact is that even on a good day, we still don’t have a consistent mental health program for people in public safety, specifically EMS.

Study: Prehospital Lung Ultrasound Improves Diagnoses of Acute Heart Failure - https://ow.ly/isYP50Uc4Ab Lung ultrasound (LUS) is a simple yet powerful imaging technique that’s proving to be a game-changer through new innovations making it accessible and easy to use by trained paramedics. This innovative approach improves diagnosis and revolutionizes emergency cardiac care from the moment help arrives. The study, conducted over six months in 2022 and released last year, followed 264 patients with difficulty breathing who were transported by ambulance (emergency medical services). Of these, 94 were ultimately diagnosed with AHF. Indiana University School of Medicine

EMS TRAINING Feasibility of Teaching Cranial Ultrasound Skills to EMS Personnel: https://ow.ly/KYni50UbSS7 Early prehospital diagnosis of spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) could facilitate interventions that reduce hematoma expansion in the first 1-3 hours after onset. Importantly, prehospital detection of ICH may impact decisions related to blood pressure goals or whether transport to a specialized facility (i.e., stroke center) is preferable.
