关于我们
Stroke, brain injury, and other central nervous system disorders can impair movement, language, information processing, and other abilities. Such disabilities result in loss of independence, substantial economic costs, and emotional burdens. Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute is devoted to improving the lives of individuals with neurological disabilities through research. Research at MRRI occupies a unique position within a translational “pipeline” from basic neuroscience to clinical neuroscience and neurorehabilitation. - We perform basic research, framed by theoretical perspectives, that maintains contact with the complexities of real-world functioning and leads to advances in neurorehabilitation assessment and treatment. - We perform patient-based research that informs basic science theories of complex cognitive and motor functioning and their neural bases and on the processes of change in these systems.

We’ll be presenting some information on treatment, research, and community support, and most importantly featuring the voices and creativity of families living with primary progressive aphasia. At noon on April 4th, come join us!
?? Mark your calendars! The NAA invites you to the 1st Annual International PPA Awareness Day - April 4th 2025! ??What is PPA???PPA is a progressive loss of language caused by changes in parts of the brain used for communication. It is not caused by injury or stroke. It is a progressive disease that starts slowly and gets worse over time. ?? Join the one-hour webinar on April 4th to see people with PPA share their experience through photos, art, poetry and more! To learn more, visit: https://lnkd.in/e6-Y8trb

A new study co-authored by Dr. Thomas Watanabe examined cognitive and social factors influencing driving ability in 585 individuals with moderate-to-severe #TBI. While better memory and executive function were linked to a higher likelihood of driving, these effects were outweighed by factors like family income and motor function, emphasizing the complex interaction between cognition and sociodemographic factors in driving status. https://lnkd.in/e6hUp3Je

The Brain Injury Nociception Assessment Measure is a tool developed to assess pain and the adequacy of pain management in individuals with severe brain injury, without relying on self-report. Many of these individuals experience a period of impaired consciousness and/or communication, which interferes with their ability to accurately self-report their symptoms. https://lnkd.in/ebw2D9t2

Drs. Simon Thibault, Aaron Wong, and Laurel Buxbaum have published new research in the journal Cortex. This study of 51 individuals with left hemisphere stroke shows that naturalistic action impairments arise from both praxis and attention control deficits. Lesion symptom mapping identified key regions associated with naturalistic action impairments, including the middle temporal gyrus, inferior parietal lobule, and middle frontal gyrus. https://lnkd.in/ehf-FNAB

Dr. Umesh Venkatesan, director of the Brain Trauma and Behavior Lab, has received the Albert Einstein Society Award to study the social factors influencing #TBI recovery. His recent study found that adverse childhood experiences are associated with poorer mental health and quality of life in adults with TBI, emphasizing the long-term effects of early-life adversity on recovery.
