关于我们
Stroke, brain injury, and other central nervous system disorders can impair movement, language, information processing, and other abilities. Such disabilities result in loss of independence, substantial economic costs, and emotional burdens. Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute is devoted to improving the lives of individuals with neurological disabilities through research. Research at MRRI occupies a unique position within a translational “pipeline” from basic neuroscience to clinical neuroscience and neurorehabilitation. - We perform basic research, framed by theoretical perspectives, that maintains contact with the complexities of real-world functioning and leads to advances in neurorehabilitation assessment and treatment. - We perform patient-based research that informs basic science theories of complex cognitive and motor functioning and their neural bases and on the processes of change in these systems.

In a recent study, Dr. Amanda Rabinowitz and colleagues examined cognitive performance in individuals with #TBI who experience chronic pain. They found that higher pain levels and greater interference were associated with poorer cognitive outcomes, emphasizing the importance of considering pain as a factor affecting cognition. https://lnkd.in/e_BtcK4H

Drs. Amanda Rabinowitz and Umesh Venkatesan co-authored a recent paper exploring episodic memory differences in older adults with and without moderate-severe #TBI. Their findings suggest a connection between memory performance and default mode and frontoparietal network connectivity, with hippocampal-subcortical resting-state connectivity being the least reliable. ??Mental health issues like apathy or depression are common in people with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and can result from patients’ challenges with everyday functions. Jefferson Health brain injury researchers investigated levels of depression and apathy in older adults with TBI. Both conditions have been reported in older adults with dementia and with Parkinson’s disease, but there’s less data on apathy in people with TBI. Amanda Rabinowitz, MD, PhD, associate director of Jefferson Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute, and her colleague Umesh Venkatesan, PhD, found that people with apathy were more likely to have cognitive problems (like with attention control). People with depression were less likely to engage socially. And people with signs of both had overall poorer functioning. ??Read more about how studies like these can inform clinical guidance and therapeutic approaches for these conditions in Thomas Jefferson University News written by Jill Adams: https://lnkd.in/eRmm-myF
