Food insecurity is rising in Jeffco. In 2023, 1 in 13 residents identified as food insecure, meaning they couldn’t afford the food they needed. At JCPH, we’re committed to supporting local food access programs and working to bridge these gaps, especially during the holidays. ?? We’re thrilled to be highlighted by NACCHO in their Stories From the Field for our 2024 Award Action Plan: “Strengthening Disability Inclusion within Local Health Departments” initiative! JCPH is proud to advance this work and began with a pilot Access & Functional Needs session. Partnering with the Center for Inclusive Design & Engineering at the University of Colorado Denver, we designed and tested a one-hour training with staff in the spring to gather feedback and identify additional accessible items needed at our locations. JCPH is now fully rolling out the training, available to any Jefferson County staff. We’re excited to share this as an example for other health departments to help cultivate AFN ambassadors. Proud moment for Jefferson County Public Health! Yesterday, two of our team members, Amy Comfort, MPH and Mindy Brown, presented at the 2024 APHA Annual Meeting, sharing on our COVID-19 response and emergency preparedness efforts. By gathering feedback from students and school health partners, they shared how we identified key improvements in communication, reporting and collaboration.
