  • Last but not least, Mayor James Stewart and the City of Irondale were recognized for their continued support and involvement of the Spring Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Day. Their community efforts play a crucial part in the success of the community service recycling project and are greatly appreciated as they collectively support keeping our communities clean.     Special Congratulations to Mayor Bobby Scott, Keith Evans, and the City of Center Point for receiving the ‘Vulcan Volunteer of the Year Award’ as they coordinated campus litter cleanups at Center Point Middle and High School as well as served as the host for the MLK Day of Service Litter Cleanup.   • Special congratulations to Trudy Parsons, now a Providence resident, as she was recognized for receiving the ‘Jean McRady Service Award’ in serving as a Sheriff Reservist for 11 years and protecting thousands of volunteers in AL PALS cleanups along many miles of road and waterways.   • Rachel Taylor and Lee Davis (not pictured) were recognized for the ‘Don’t Drop it On Alabama Award’ where they participated in the Mulga Loop Road annual Cleanup which includes completing seven cleanups involving 365 volunteers and removal of over 11.24 tons of litter.   • Clay Chalkville High School TV Production students were recognized for their creativity in environmental responsibility as well as their ongoing efforts and participation with Alabama People Against a Littered State (ALPALS). The students coordinated and completed three cleanups along Cosby Lake and Park involving 154 volunteers and the removal of 1.67 tons of litter. They were also 2024 Litter Quitters Anti-Litter Video Competition and 2nd place winner in the North Jefferson Division.   • The Sheriff’s office and its reservists were recognized by the Jefferson County Commission today for their service in providing traffic support for volunteer litter cleanups all over Jefferson County including their efforts in 2024 for their support of 26 litter cleanups and 599 volunteers. Their security efforts play a crucial part in the success of the community service project and are greatly appreciated as they collectively support keeping our communities clean.   • During the Commission meeting today, Jefferson County Commissioners joined the County Manager and the Human Resources Department as they presented a special congratulatory proclamation to Environmental Service Department staff Orlando Walker (and Andrew Hudson not pictured) for serving thirty years as Jefferson County employees.
