As the saying goes - at the end of the day, it is the journey itself that matters the most. And while the Jeff App journey is still very much in the beginning (as far as my best assessment goes), this is certainly one of those moments to cherish: how our partnership with Google has evolved. After expanding our cooperation over the past couple of years, last week we met at Google's European HQ in Dublin for a 2-day private workshop. Some of the highlights: ? It is only understandable that Bolt dropped us off at the incorrect location - not easy to navigate between 10 (!) different Google buildings in Dublin ? As you move fast, perspective changes even more rapidly. We scaled a certain area of our cooperation 10x in 2024, and what seemed like massive success for us ultimately turned out to be "Ok, we see you, let's get started for real now!" signal for the Google team ? Felt welcome like never before. Preparation, professionalism, competency presented by Google team - the caliber of people are a very clear reason why Google is one of the biggest and most successful companies of the modern times ? Got an exclusive experience to visit latest Google's office building in Dublin 1 day after opening. Got kicked out of a cafe due to 2 min delay, played some ball on a rooftop court & got stuck in an elevator - all within 1 hour ? At the end of the day, people and relationships go the longest of ways. Cannot wait to see how the opportunity to meet in person, share some pints of Guinness and bond offline will fortify the cooperation between Google and Jeff App! Key takeaways unveiled ~ ~ Allica Bank from the UK tops the Sifted 250 Leaderboard with an impressive CAGR of 1438%, followed by Denmark’s kompasbank (1149%) and the UK’s Artios Pharma (697%). ?? London is home to 57 of these companies, followed by Paris (19), Stockholm (16), Berlin (13) and Milan (11). ~ B2B SaaS is the most represented vertical (75 companies), followed by fintech (64), climate tech (41), and consumer tech (38). ~ The 250 companies average €17m in annual revenue, contributing to a collective €4.2bn in revenue in their latest financial year.? ?? During second half of September together with my Jeff App co-founder Reinis we had the pleasure of joining delegation of President of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics and Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis, visiting USA on a trade mission. It was both a productive and refreshing trip. Main takeaways: ?? As a startup progresses through the lifecycle, the "scales" do indeed start shifting. A remarkable number of VC funds were eager to meet with us, talk and explore opportunities to partner. Conversion rate from outreach to meeting was considerably higher than a year or two ago. Metrics tell the boldest story of them all. ?? San Francisco is all about AI. We probably saw more outdoor ads and banners around AI solutions there than online ads in Europe. At the same time, New York City is much more of a globally-minded VC ecosystem than it seemed to us before. ?? Duolingo builds relationships. After many months of crushing friend quests together, we finally had the opportunity to meet and have some valuable conversations with Mikus Opelts. Bit of a feeling like "meeting an old friend" - all credit to the green owl. ?? This has been a crazy year for me, spending more time abroad than at home. From Manila to Tokyo, to Singapore, to Jakarta - nothing comes even close to NYC and San Francisco when it is about drive and dynamics of building startups. Ambition, way of thinking, speed - don't think there have been more energizing experiences to reboot and recharge batteries for next chapter of building Jeff App. Purely thanks to the environment and people. ?? We spent absolute majority of time on our own meetings, outside of delegation's agenda and events. But during the little time we did, it was a nice surprise to observe open-mindedness from Viktors Valainis. Engaging in simple discussions, being open to ideas and suggestions, being approachable - small, simple, and yet impactful things that bring politicians closer to the business scene and people in general.
