?? Celebrating Innovation at the 2024 Direct Air Capture (DAC) Academy Finale! ?? Yesterday, ACT hosted the finale event for our inaugural DAC Academy, an accelerator program tailored to advancing direct air capture (DAC) startups. Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s DAC Pre-Commercial EPIC Prize, the DAC Academy supports startups working on groundbreaking carbon capture technologies. ? ACT President Joe Curtatone welcomed attendees and highlighted the critical role of innovation programs like the DAC Academy in the climate economy. ? The seven 2024 cohort members pitched their innovative solutions to a panel of judges, including Lindsey Butler, PhD, MSc, VP Sustainability, Cref; Cvic Innocent, Founder & GP, Frankenbuild Ventures; Nguyen Le, Associate, MUUS Climate Partners; Josué J. L., Senior Associate, Fine Structure Ventures; and, Stacy Swider, VP Investments, MassVentures and an enthusiastic audience in pursuit of $50,000 in prizes. ? The audience heard from industry experts, including?Kevin Dutt, Interim CEO of Greentown Labs, and Todd Allmendinger, Director of Consulting and Research, Cleantech Group. ?? ?? The latest Voucher Recipients have confirmed their partnerships with Voucher Providers—worth over $20M! Congratulations to the organizations that have been matched through DOE’s Voucher Program! The U.S. DOE Office of Technology Transitions, in collaboration with the Offices of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED), Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management | U.S. Department of Energy, and Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), previously announced that over 170 companies, tribes, and local governments will receive support to advance commercialization of clean energy technologies in the form of in-kind DOE-funded vouchers. The #VoucherProgram is designed to grant small businesses, local governments, and other non-traditional partners access to the vetted resources and expertise they need to bring their clean energy technologies and projects to the next level. In this recent round, the program offered 7 different Vouchers support across many capabilities ranging from testing facility access to trusted third-party subject matter expertise. Entrepreneurs traveled from far and wide -- including from Japan and Mexico. We are all energized for what's to come! Direct Air Capture is the next frontier in the #climatefight. Today at our Jeevan Climate Solutions lab in Allentown, we took delivery of a (very) custom piece of machinery. We had an issue getting it off the truck (long story) but our neighbors next door who run an auto salvage yard (https://wegotused.com/) stopped what they were doing and sent their (very awesome) front-end loader and operator over to help us. They didn’t ask for anything in return (and refused our offer to compensate them). Just decent, kind people who wanted to help. Good reminder that:? ?? Allentown is a wonderful place filled with wonderful people (who get shit done).? ?? Solving engineering problems (and climate change) takes a village and you never know who will extend their hand to help or who you will have the opportunity to help. Grateful for good people today and thinking about paying it forward.
