What if I told you the make-or-break hotel guest experience comes down to a 5-second interaction? It’s true, and the J.D. Power hotel guest satisfaction study confirms it. Our study looks at the entire guest journey, from booking the room online to checking out and everything in between: check-in, Wi-Fi, room quality, dining, the gym, concierge services, and even the shuttle to the airport. After breaking it all down, we offer guests a survey - asking them to rate each of the key moments of truth. Then, we use that feedback to figure out which parts of the journey were most important to them. And the #1 factor that influences overall satisfaction? The check-in experience. This moment only lasts a short period of time, but checking in can make or break the overall experience for guests. And here’s the kicker - the biggest issue doesn’t have to be long wait times. We’ve learned that if the front desk clerk simply acknowledges a guest in line, the perceived wait time can be cut by as much as 50%. This simple, 5-second act dramatically improves guest satisfaction. Understanding key moments (and how they impact customer satisfaction) is essential for businesses that want to know what’s working…and what’s not. Only then can we elevate those 5-second moments and deliver better experiences overall. Success is not about being perfect in every moment. It’s about identifying and excelling at the ones that matter most to the consumer.
