After the July 2021 death of UF Health Jacksonville CEO Leon Haley, a group of his friends took a fishing trip to Key West. Those six friends pondered how best to honor Haley and they settled on one of Haley's wishes for the hospital he led — a new trauma center. The group lobbied legislators and city leaders for funding and finally three years after that fishing trip, ground is breaking for the $90 million UF Health Jacksonville Leon L.
