This week, Chula Vista Learning Community Charter JA Fellows visited the San Diego Gas & Electric to learn about the utility industry and different career pathways in the field. The day included a #careerpanel composed of employees representing the various company departments, a tour of the facility, and interactive activities that educate students on energy and utilities. Experiences like these play a key role in exposing students to new #careerpathways and industries while helping them become familiar with professional environments. Thank you, SDGE, for providing this career connected learning experience to our JA Fellows! #InspiringYouthwithJA #careerexploration

JA San Diego is committed to ensuring young people have the knowledge and skills to manage their #personalfinances and achieve their future #financialgoals. CA Assembly Bill 2927 was recently signed by Gov. Newsom?requiring high schools to offer a #financialliteracy course by the 2027-2028 school year and make financial literacy a graduation requirement by 2030-2031.?This legislation highlights the critical need to prepare youth for their financial futures by safeguarding widespread access to financial literacy #education. As financial literacy education becomes accessible to California youth, #experientiallearning will equip students with the experience and confidence to apply what they learn in the classroom to relevant real-world applications.?Through programming such as Mission Fed JA Finance Park, JA San Diego intends to work closely with educators and school districts to provide financial literacy programming and immersive learning experiences to students. The newest cohort of JA Fellows launched at Chula Vista Learning Community Charter. Students had their first career panel with the JA San Diego team and learned how career pathways are often non-linear. This is the first of many career exploration experiences for our JA Fellows. They'll be hearing from a range of professionals and local industries over the next few months through career panels and job shadows. Thank you to our team members, Yaxsarie Velazquez, Pana Hap, Catherine Van Weele, and Duchicela Galvez, for sharing your career journeys and insights with our JA Fellows!
