关于我们
Mission The Jamestown Foundation’s mission is to inform and educate policy makers and the broader community about events and trends in those societies which are strategically or tactically important to the United States and which frequently restrict access to such information. Utilizing indigenous and primary sources, Jamestown’s material is delivered without political bias, filter or agenda. It is often the only source of information which should be, but is not always, available through official or intelligence channels, especially in regard to Eurasia and terrorism. ----------------- Origins Founded in 1984 by William Geimer, The Jamestown Foundation made a direct contribution to the downfall of Communism through its dissemination of information about the closed totalitarian societies of Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. The Jamestown Foundation has emerged as a leading provider of information about Eurasia. Our research and analysis on conflict and instability in Eurasia enabled Jamestown to become one of the most reliable sources of information on the post-Soviet space, the Caucasus and Central Asia as well as China. Furthermore, since 9/11, Jamestown has utilized its network of indigenous experts in more than 50 different countries to conduct research and analysis on terrorism and the growth of al-Qaeda and al-Qaeda offshoots throughout the globe. By drawing on our ever-growing global network of experts, Jamestown has become a vital source of unfiltered, open-source information about major conflict zones around the world—from the Black Sea to Siberia, from the Persian Gulf to Latin America and the Pacific. Our core of intellectual talent includes former high-ranking government officials and military officers, political scientists, journalists, scholars and economists. Their insight contributes significantly to policymakers engaged in addressing today’s newly emerging global threats in the post 9/11 world.

I published a paper recently with the The Jamestown Foundation about a network of "news" websites that mimic?the formatting of The New York Times and Politico. Despite having extensive online bios, some of the reporters for? the websites do not exist, and their photos bear the hallmarks of being generated by a dated AI technology used in?PRC campaigns like Spamouflage. The websites publish a variety of stories on international news, and link to a broader network of dozens of sites?appealing to local readerships across the US,?Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Interspersed among their stories? are lengthy pieces echoing Beijing's preferred narratives on topics such as advancements in PRC military?technology,?human rights abuses in Hong Kong and Xinjiang, and United Front work. Most surprisingly, prominent news organizations including Newsweek, the Defense Post, and the Daily Mail have?linked to, cited and quoted "reporters" from these websites, despite the fact that the reporters do not exist and appear?to be AI-generated. My research shows?how easily manipulated information can spread: https://lnkd.in/e9nYnSB9

“The growth of Hangzhou’s “six little dragons” has been supported by over twenty years of policy support from ditrict, city, provincial, and central governments. My latest: Hangzhou, a city just 40 minutes from Shanghai by high-speed rail, may be unfamiliar to many in the West, but it has emerged as a key hub drawing Beijing’s attention. While Hangzhou’s success is undoubtedly a story that the local government—and likely Beijing—seeks to cultivate and promote, it is more than just propaganda. The rise of Hangzhou’s “six little dragons” has been fueled by more than two decades of policy support at the district, city, provincial, and central levels. Recent successes of companies like DeepSeek, Game Science, and Unitree are, in part, a testament to a new innovation ecosystem fostered by the Party in the region. Now, the Party is doubling down on this new model.

"Beijing has spent the last several years constructing a domestic legal toolkit that will allow it to claim a blockade against Taiwan as legitimate or reinforce the foundation for a blockade by empowering the China Coast Guard and PLA Navy to intercept, detain, and regulate foreign vessels in contested waters. As PLA-affiliated researchers laid out in 2020, avenues for justifying such actions under international law also have been explored." - Masayoshi Dobashi and Rena SASAKI.
