The Foley Foundation was established after the kidnap and murder of American freelance journalist James Wright Foley by ISIS in 2014. Our Mission: To secure the freedom of Americans held unjustly captive abroad and prevent future hostage-taking. Our Vision: A future where Americans abroad are safe from hostage-taking. Our Values: Justice: We are committed to resolving the injustice of hostage-taking and seeking accountability for captors' inhumane treatment of innocents. Moral Courage: Inspired by Jim Foley, we seek to?encourage and empower all to act with moral conviction - one person at a time for the good of others. Compassion: We empathize with and help hostage families, confidentially: listening, identifying the resources they need and the obstacles they face, while advocating for their loved ones’ swift return.

American conflict journalist James Foley was taken hostage by ISIS in 2012. While he endured torture, the U.S. government refused to negotiate for his release. On August 19, 2014, ISIS killed him. ISIS disseminated a video of his brutal murder worldwide as propaganda to mock the impotence of the U.S. government, to shock ordinary citizens of the world, and to recruit others to their murderous cause. Just 16 days later (10 years ago today) his mother, Diane Foley, started the #FoleyFoundation to inspire moral courage, protect journalists, and secure the freedom of Americans held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad. #JimFoley10Years #MoralCourage
