  • Did you know some of our officers get to go scuba diving? ?? This past Sunday, Ofc. Williams, one of our newest Underwater Search and Recovery Team (USRT) members, along with another new officer, completed their dry suit and full-face mask certifications at Lake Phoenix (VA). The USRT plays a critical role in keeping waterways safe in James City County and the Hampton Roads region. These highly trained professionals are tasked with recovering evidence, assisting in rescues, and, when necessary, bringing closure to families by recovering individuals who have lost their lives. It’s demanding, meaningful work that requires courage, skill, and extensive specialized training. Interested in a career in law enforcement and maybe even a spot on this elite team? Join us at our Career Expo this Saturday, March 15, as Ofc. Williams will be there to talk about what it takes to become a diver and serve our community. Career Expo Details: ?? Saturday, March 15 ? 10 a.m.-2 p.m. ?? 4600 Opportunity Way, Williamsburg, VA 23188 Come meet our team, learn about our specialty units, and take the first step toward a rewarding career!

  • Love is in the air… but so are scams ?? It’s #ValentinesDay, so let’s talk about heartbreaks caused by fraudsters and scammers. Romance scams are prevalent and can cause serious harm, as fraudsters prey on emotions to manipulate victims into sending money. These scammers often build trust over time through elaborate social engineering tactics, only to disappear once they get what they want. ?? Red Flags ?? ?? They contact you online or over the phone and quickly profess love or deep feelings. ?? They avoid meeting in person or video chatting. ?? Once they form a connection, they ask for money or financial help. Protect your heart and your wallet. If something feels off, trust your instincts! if you've been a victim of a scam, please report it to law enforcement right away.

  • Picture this: You’re on your 6 a.m. commute to the office, navigating dark roads with no other cars around. Your high beams help illuminate the way—until you spot an approaching vehicle. You courteously switch to low beams, expecting the same in return. But as they get closer, their lights—brighter than the sun itself—stay on, making it difficult to see. Sound familiar? ?? Using low beams when approaching or following another vehicle isn’t just considerate—it’s the law. Virginia Code § 46.2-1034 requires drivers to dim their high beams when within 500 feet of an oncoming vehicle or 200 feet when following another vehicle. Failing to do so creates dangerous glare, reducing visibility and reaction time for others on the road. Safe driving is about awareness and responsibility. Be mindful, follow the law, and dim your high beams ??

  • ???????????????? ?????? ?????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ?????? Today, Jan. 9, is a day of recognition. We reflect and honor the resiliency, courage, and sacrifices of law enforcement officers (LEOs) in our department, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and across the United States and the globe. Each day, hundreds of thousands of sworn LEOs don the uniform and confidently step into the line of duty to serve and protect their communities. Their responsibilities are vast and complex: they intervene in violent crimes, assist victims of fraud and theft, render aid at crash scenes, provide lifesaving medical care, inform and comfort grieving families, support communities during natural disasters, track and apprehend fugitives, offer resources to those in crisis, dismantle intricate criminal networks, and so much more. LEOs meet the ever-evolving demands of public safety head-on, consistently rising to new challenges and going above and beyond for their communities. The average person usually does not see the extent of their demanding workload, but today is an opportunity to reflect on their vital role and offer thanks. We encourage you to take a moment to acknowledge the work and sacrifices of your local, state, and federal LEOs. A simple gesture of gratitude—a kind word, a "thank you," or even a nod of appreciation—can make a meaningful impact. We are proud to serve as members of the James City County Police Department.
