I recently attended the Technology Leadership Summit hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and there were some fascinating takeaways around AI and governance. Here are 4 key points that stood out to me: 1. Small Businesses & AI Regulation: Many small businesses are using AI but are worried that state-by-state regulations might make it harder for them to stay competitive. While there’s lobbying against restrictive laws, government officials are aiming to create what they call a safer business environment with rules like those from the FTC, which already help prevent fraud and impersonation of people or businesses. https://lnkd.in/dZ37ubSt 2. China's R&D Surge: China’s massive investment in research and development is something, Arati Prabhakar,?Director, Office of Science & Technology Policy?said we can't ignore. She sees R&D as the foundation for innovation, and as China continues to outpace the U.S. and EU with a 10.6% annual increase, it's clear they’re laying the groundwork for future disruption—and possibly a more employable workforce. This affects us all as global competition increases and values/forms of government differ. https://lnkd.in/dP6-Jh-s 3. Voice Prompts & AI: Voice-based commands are transforming how we interact with our devices, making it more accessible. This shift could be a game-changer for businesses, too. Imagine how differently we’ll use our phones and tech in the near future if we no longer have to swipe through endless apps—and how companies will need to adjust. 4. AI’s Environmental Impact: Researchers are sounding the alarm on the environmental costs of AI. They say soon, up to 9% of the energy we use in the U.S. could be consumed by AI systems. So being 'green' is no longer just about using a paper straw—it might also mean thinking twice before entering that next prompt into ChatGPT!
